FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have not up to this point in time set my own prices. It has been the parents who set the prices. But depending on how my business grows and takes on changes, that may change. If I am working for a tutoring program in a school then it is the school that decides my rate of pay. I am not quite ready or trained by multiple experiences to become an independent contractor/tutor-set my own prices yet. To become just an educational tutor in a home environment is a new concept to me. Especially, while I am trying to college educate myself too.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a Physical Therapy Asst., it was initially to work with senior citizens in home health/rehabilitation or care centers. Then I did my clinicals in St. Joseph's Villa and in Intermountain Health Ctr. Hospital (across the way from my house-you can see the whole ctr from my bedrm window on 5300 so State st). They sent me all over that hospital and I was on the floor where children coming out of surgery into physical rehab were. And over the next few days those little heros of auto accidents, serious bicycles and fires, with amazing courage; soul smile at me, deeply and profoundly changed something in me. I had been working yearsssss in retail big box stores and lost myself in the corporate maze. These wonderful young souls awakened memories in me that will no longer be denied. I never changed in the core of me but something woke me up-shook me up and stopped me in my tracks. I was on the wrong path and realized it to the bone, like being electrified by one little girl's smile and her words "Are you doing what your heart says do?". My mommy and Daddy tell me that all the time. Looking at me she asks me if I am. So in answering your question....yes, I do. I have a lot of learning about my chosen field to come for the rest of my life. What ever it takes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been in this line of work since I was born into the family I was, but officially I guess it's when I came to the conclusion I didn't like the 'jobs" I had had and wanted something that meant something to someone other than just clocking hours or getting a paycheck that took the heart and soul right out of me. So I opened a day care and invited the most wonderful little people into my life (30); and realized I needed a couple of more girls in the business with me to make it work. That's when life lesson 101 kicked in-in the reality of running a business, feeding, cleaning, naps, diaper changes creative play time and structured organization and teaching kids to walk from a crawl, lean their colors, numbers, shapes, learn to write their names, write words and understand the rules of no fighting-peace making, no bitting, kicking or stealing toys and the consequences. That's when the love and passion for those little folks really kicked in. And I've been doing nanny/tutor off and on over the years during all our military moves because it was the easiest job to get and its just sometime I love doing more than nearly any other jobs I've had.
