I found Blythe through Thumbtack in August of 2014 and we have been working together ever since - now over two years. I highly recommend Blythe as a Spanish tutor for any age group. My elementary aged son and I work with her 2x/month and we are each improving our Spanish language skills. Blythe caters the lessons to our diverse levels and engages us in multi-modal learning strategies - books, music, movement, games, worksheets, conversations, and hands-on activities. My son looks forward to our lessons with enthusiasm. Blythe continually checks in about our goals and needs, and surpasses our expectations. She is bright, patient, and passionate as a teacher. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Yes. I charge $30.00 per hour, which includes the materials I provide for you and the time I spend developing your personalized curriculum. I am always invested in the success of my learners. I want you to do well and learn quickly. For groups I will reduce the cost to the individual, but all learners must attend every class and there are still costs to me associated with reproduction of materials, etc.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I try to get some idea of your experience with the language. I also like to know your objectives for learning the language so that I can focus on your needs and expectations. I come with a lesson plan the first time that will also help me get some idea of your abilities. I request payment at the beginning of each month for the month. I also have a list of skills we will learn and cover as time goes on. I will update you periodically, as to where we are in that list and leave you with a copy of it so that you can see your progress.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish Translation. I have a partially completed Master's Degree in Linguistics. I also have another Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I have years and years, lol, of teaching in one capacity or another to all sizes and shapes and colors of groups and individuals. I even taught a group of 14 three-year old's for an hour at a time! I have been a corporate trainer and a training manager. I have team taught and I have taught alone. I have tutored individuals and I have taught large groups of forty or more people. In one setting, as a corporate trainer, I was transferred to a group of 40+ students, that was sadly lacking in energy and the class was just plain boring, even with a team of trainers. I brought the energy level up and made the learning experience much more enjoyable for that group of learners, and for the trainers themselves.
