Introduction: I reside in Utah, so if you are looking for a local tutor here in Utah, check me out! Since the COVID-19 outbreak, I teach lessons online; that way we remain safe, and you can enjoy lessons from your own home while we still see each other and converse! There are a lot of fun things we can do online. I utilize quite a few online resources and share my screen to do games, share a chalkboard, read a book together, listen to some music, watch a video, and other activities. Learning should be FUN, not boring! We all learn better and faster and we remember more if we are enjoying the process. You may notice that some professionals on Thumbtack have been hired by a large number of people. Having a large number of hires doesn't always equate with excellence. I don't have a huge number of hires because I have longevity and I am a team of one. I work with my students long-term. I have been working with some of my students for as long as ten years (which is when I began private tutoring and joined Thumbtack). Therefore, I don't have the need to be continually looking for new students. However, I usually have space for new students. Prior to doing private tutoring I worked as a translator. One of my degrees is in Spanish translation. Additionally, probably 50% of my students come from unsolicited referrals by my other students. I incorporate games, music (if you learn something to music you tend to remember it better and longer), simulations of everyday activities, conversation, reading, writing, listening activities, visuals and lots of handouts to help you learn. You will remember better and learn faster if you complete assignments outside of the lesson time frame, so I assign homework, if you are willing. Every student is given a customized lesson plan and we go at your pace.

Blythe helped my daughter get back up to speed during the summer for Spanish 4 in high school. The lessons were very helpful and Blythe had a good working knowledge of the areas she should have covered through Spanish 3.

Blythe is extremely professional and always well prepared for our lessons. She is super creative and let's us decide what we want to learn and what works best for us. She is very knowledgeable and makes learning so fun and easy. She offers day and evening time slots which has worked for well for us working nights. Blythe is a wonderful Spanish instructor for my two children (ages 7 and 10 years). She is creative, engaging, patient, and uses a variety of teaching methods in each lesson. The time flies by and the kids always have a wonderful and enriching experience. She is also thoughtful, kind, and reliable. I would recommend Blythe to any child or adult who is seeking to improve their Spanish speaking and reading abilities. She is fabulous.

Thanks to Thumbtack , about 2 months ago I was fortunate to find Blythe for teaching Spanish to my 2 kids (11 & 7 yrs old). We have nothing but great things to say about her. What started of as a once a week lesson for an hr , quick converted into 2 lessons that span over 3 hours per week. Blythe is a fantastic teacher, extremely professional but fun at the same time, engages the kids and teaches through multiple teaching strategies (using games , white boards , charts , conversations and books). She takes time and comes prepared for each lesson she takes. My kids are learning a ton and having fun at the same time. They really look forward to their Spanish lessons every week. Blythe is also very supportive and flexible and is willing to do what it takes to accommodate for schedule conflicts (which are sometimes unavoidable), which is a blessing for every busy parent. We are really happy to have Blythe as our Spanish tutor and have already provided a recommendation to several friends.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates start at $40.00 per hour for Spanish or English lessons, which includes the materials I provide for you (which are many) and the time I spend developing your personalized curriculum. I am always invested in the success of my learners. I want you to do well and learn as quickly as possible.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try to get some idea of your experience with the language. I also like to know your objectives for learning the language so that I can focus on your needs and expectations. I come with a lesson plan for our first meeting, which also help me assess your language abilities. I also have a list of skills/grammar principles we will learn and cover as time goes on. I will update you periodically, as to where we are in that list and leave you with a copy of it so that you can see your progress. I request payment at the beginning of each month for that month.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a partially completed Master's Degree in Linguistics and I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish Translation. (I also have another Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.) I have many years experience teaching/tutoring to all ages and group sizes. I even tutored a group of 14 three-year old's, for a one-hour lesson, and kept their attention! I have been the Director of a language training program (with courses for adults and for children), a corporate trainer and a training manager. I have tutored individuals and large groups (in both Spanish and English).
