When we hired Jason at Building Pros, we only intended him to complete some drywall repairs we needed done in a rental unit. However, as additional needs arose, we soon discovered Jason to be skilled in many different areas and had him complete not only the drywall repair, but door frame replacement, baseboard removal and installation, window repair, hvac assessment, plumbing repairs and several other miscellaneous jobs we needed done. Jason and his team have been incredibly efficient and professional and we look forward to maintaining a long term working relationship with Building Pros.

Adam was available to help out on very short notice and did a great job. Adam hung closet doors, planed some doors that would not close post carpet installation, and finished wrapping my deck (after my brother who was helping me was injured). I thought his pricing was very fair and the quality and workmanship was really good. I will be reaching out to him again for other help I need around the house.

Spettro Remodels helped us with remodeling our house that we recently purchased. It needed new flooring to replace the nasty carpet and vinyl sheeting that was throughout the home. Their suggestion to put in LVP flooring throughout the main floor was excellent and their workmanship was superb. Carpet was also replaced for our upstairs living area. We also had them replace all of the baseboards, casings, and headers throughout the home along with installing a new front entry door. Would work with this company again the next remodeling project.

DM handyman services is now the only handyman I will ever have do work for me. I've been burned by handymen before. My plumbing froze and burst over this last winter. While I already had a plumber, I had no clue who to call about the insulation and drywall. A dear friend of mine suggested Dave and said he was the best. I called him, and he informed me he was currently wrapping up two other projects at the moment, but could come out in a week. I was in no hurry since the space was empty and the plumber had not completed his work yet. A week later he showed up and gave me a bid SO fair that it felt like I had a friend giving me the buddy discount. He got right to work and took no time at all getting the insulation installed. He then informed me that it would be best to wait for warmer temperatures to install and finish the drywall. This is where I thought I was going to get hosed. To my surpise, the FIRST day it got warm he was on the phone with me saying it'd be a good time to fish the job. Once the drywall was in and he finished painting it, I couldn't even tell the damage had happened. He's a master of his trades. If he says you'll need to wait for his availability, WAIT. If he tells you its going to be a bit more than he bid you, PAY IT. He's worth the wait and every penny!

I had my house roof replaced, siding put on shed, as well as a new exterior door installed on the shed. I am impressed by the quality of all three jobs. Each of the three installers took time to answer my questions and made sure that any concerns I had were fixed. Even the installer of the door took the time to wipe down the frame of the door. I would recommend Sears for any home improvement jobs.

I contacted a TON of different companies to see who would deliver the most value with my windows. I had bought a house that was previously flipped, and they had only replaced the front windows. There were awful aluminum windows everywhere else in my house, and they were all gross looking, and all the seals had cracked. You couldn't even see out of the sliding glass door because there was so much condensation! After sitting through all of the quotes where they showed the quality of the windows and the prices for them, I determined that I could get the best quality windows with an agreeable price tag from Alpine Windows. Hiram was the one who came and gave the quotes, and we was very thorough and answered all of our questions, and gave us our price right up front so we knew exactly how much it would be, no extra hidden fees or anything. The install went pretty smoothly, they kept the (Just deep cleaned!) house tidy, and everything around the windows looked SO much better once they were installed. It transformed the rooms they were in, from the gross and old aluminum windows to the fantastic, beautiful white vinyl windows. We chose the triple pane windows, and there was an immediate difference in the room. They are fantastic, you can't feel any heat or cold coming into the house from them, or leaving them. Over all it was a fantastic experience, with very few minor bumps along the way. I am planning to have Alpine Exteriors come back to replace the other windows that didn't get replaced in the near future, as the quality from them to the new vinyl is very apparent. Alpine Exteriors will be awesome for any window needs, and I would 100% recommend them.

Sean and his crew did a great job restoring windows that are nearly 100 years old. The work was done quickly and was really high quality. I really couldn't be happier with the end result. I've looked for a while to find a company I can work with for the different aspects of my home remodel. I will definitely use them again.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
