Introduction: (PLEASE, NOTICE THAT I LIVE IN ALEXANDRIA, VA if you are looking for in person lessons before reaching out - and that I don’t travel to the student. Thanks!) Hi! My name is Julia, I originally come from Spain. I’m currently a full time piano teacher in Alexandria, VA and am also a performer and am in the last stage of my Doctoral degree in piano performance. Besides that, I hold a minor in music theory, two masters degrees in piano performance (one from HKU in The Netherlands and another one from USF, Florida), and during my school years was a teaching and a piano collaborative assistant at the Universities of Memphis and South Florida respectively. Music is my passion since I started learning at a very young age. It personally has thought me and made me experience things that nothing else I know has: music is a fascinating world, a language that connects our emotions to sound in a sort of abstract way that’s not easy to define with words. I had the privilege of studying with high caliber renown teachers and was exposed to Russian technique since a very young age, and love sharing what I’ve learnt with others! Motivation and fun are fundamental elements for me during the lessons, so I'm happy to tailor each lesson accordingly to each student's personal goals and skills. I find beautiful to see my students exploring the music world, growing and developing their artistry and creativity through what I teach them. Also, learning how to coordinate to play an instrument is also a tremendously beneficial activity for your brain, body and body-mind coordination. And I have developed my own personal ways to effectively approach the learning process in efficient ways that make the most sense in the long run. I look forward to working with you! -:) ⚠️ UPDATE: I’m currently still mainly teaching virtually via Zoom, FaceTime or Skype. Let me know if you would like to schedule a trial lesson at a reduced price, to see if the online format works for you.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

In our first lesson I will need to get a feel for you, know what your goals are, your current level, see how you pick things and which may be your learning process (some people are more visual, others aural, etc), which kind of music/skills would you like to learn, etc. So that I figure how to approach my teaching in order to help you best. Of course, if you have something ready to play that’d be great! I’d love to listen and we would start working on it right away =:) Or if you are a beginner, I would instead introduce you to music and piano from scratch :-) You will also receive my feedback and suggestions in terms of how to approach the lessons, material to use, recommended length, what to focus on first, etc. I pretty much tailor my lessons individually, depending on what each person’s goals and skills are!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I got my Bachelors in Madrid (Spain) where I got accepted at age 16, being one of the only 5 candidates who were accepted in the Royal Conservatory of Madrid that year, out of about 100 applicants. I got my first Masters degree in Utrecht (The Netherlands) and my second one in USF (University of South Florida), where I was also a GA (Graduate Assistant). Then in 2015 I was offered a full TA (Teaching Assistantship) at the Univeristy of Memphis TN after auditioning for a Doctorate degree in Piano Performance. There I was teaching class piano for about 3 years and got a minor in Music Theory. I have also won prices in piano competitions, performed around Europe and USA since, have played as a soloist with chamber orchestras, and more. All my teachers since I started playing piano at an early age are renown musicians in the classical world, and I feel fortunate I had the chance to learn my piano technique and artistry from musicians of such a high caliber. I also LOVE teaching and have near 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages (4yrs old- 68years Old) and levels.
