Working with Julia has been an amazing experience. I have only been going for four weeks and I am already able to read notes and pitches to play melodies. I go once a week, and do not own a keyboard yet so Julia has provided exercises to work on between lessons and keep the material fresh for the next lesson. She is great about giving constructive feedback and adapts her teaching to align with my learning style so I can get the most out of every lesson. Julia has also been understanding about rescheduling lessons to accommodate my busy schedule. Overall Julia has been great to work with and I look forward to continuing my piano lessons with her.Jul 3, 2019VerifiedDr. Julia Aguayo (A.B.D)'s reply
Thank you Katrina! -:) It’s always so nice to have you over
Julia has exceeded all of my expectations as a piano teacher. Prior to taking lessons from her I had some experience as a child, and she quickly brought me back up to speed. Between sight reading, finger exercises, ear training and theory with each piece I I have grown immensely because of her training. Each lesson Julia is prepared with brief lessons and/or quizzes me on what we went over previously. She quickly learned my style of learning and always helps me get through any difficulties, speed, fingering, key changes.. etc I am having with any piece. She is fun, light hearted, and a joy to be around. Julia is a patient instructor and has been very accommodating to my inconsistent schedule. I would highly recommend Julia to any player of any skill level. Her deep understanding of piano juxtaposed with her energy are qualities she has that enable her to instruct the advancement of any player!Oct 16, 2019VerifiedDr. Julia Aguayo (A.B.D)'s reply
Thanks Mia! It’s my pleasure :)
I've had a few piano lessons with Julia so far and I have nothing but good things to say! As someone who works full-time, I needed a teacher who could accommodate my busy schedule as well as being reasonably priced. Also, being 24 years old while basically starting to learn the piano from scratch, it was important I found a teacher that wouldn't treat me like a child when going through the basics. I was lucky to find all of these qualities in Julia! She does a great job of explaining things clearly, slowing down when something is difficult, and challenging you when you get the hang of things. In addition to being an incredibly accomplished musician, she is also a very friendly individual that is sure to make anyone feel welcome and comfortable. I look forward to our lessons every week and I highly recommend her for anyone in need of a fantastic piano teacher!Apr 29, 2019VerifiedDr. Julia Aguayo (A.B.D)'s reply

I'm highly enjoying my piano lessons with Julia! She is such a patient teacher and always finds the way to help you learn complex things in an easy way... I definitely recommend her as a teacher.Jun 21, 2018
Julia is an excellent teacher- when I started with her she quickly assessed my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve been very happy with my improvement in a relatively short amount of time. It’s clear she is invested in the development of her students- she sends me pieces from time to time in between lessons that I would like and help me progress. Best teacher you can find anywhere.May 19, 2020Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?POLICY AND OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS: 1) I offer a free phone consultation and/or a trial lessons at a reduced price: •$25 for a 30min session •$35 for a 45min session •$45 for a 60min session *For in-home lessons, the trial lessons pack includes two lessons instead of three. 2) $5 off after the first kid in case of siblings or relatives in general, when scheduled back to back. 3) I offer Skype lessons for students who are not beginners. 4) Cancellation and rescheduling: - If a lesson is cancelled within 24 hours from the scheduled lesson time, half of the lesson rate shall be sent via Venmo or added to the next lesson - Failure to show to a lesson without notice would count as a cancellation and the full rate shall be paid. - If a makeup lesson is cancelled as well, rescheduling won’t be possible. * Rescheduling will be based on my availability. ** In case of last minute cancellations, no makeup lessons would be offered that same week, unless both the missed lesson and the new scheduled lesson are paid. 5) Get 5% off total price when paying monthly for weekly lessons- payment in the first lesson each month. When I provide in-home lessons, lessons shall be paid monthly at the beginning of the month if you want to book a fixed lesson time/day with me. * In case of cancellation or needing re-scheduling, the same rules expressed above will apply. ** In case of extreme reasons or if it’s me who can’t make it, you would decide whether you want to put the money of that lesson towards the next month or if you want it reimbursed. 6) The students are responsible for getting to their lessons on time. Since I may have other students, projects and personal life planned afterwards, I can't always guarantee teaching the full amount of time I was booked for if the student arrives late. 7) My prices are meant for lessons at my apartment in Alexandria, where I have an excellent Yamaha CLP635 that’s better than many upright pianos I have encountered. I only consider teaching in-home lessons if we live nearby or you live in Arlington and we can find a time in my schedule that works, and for an extra fee - I go to Arlington twice a week (on Tuesdays and Sundays). 8) Get one session half off when other people you refer me to get a lesson.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? In our first lesson I will need to get a feel for you, know what your goals are, your current level, see how you pick things and which may be your learning process (some people are more visual, others aural, etc), which kind of music/skills would you like to learn, etc. So that I figure how to approach my teaching in order to help you best. Of course, if you have something ready to play that’d be great! I’d love to listen and we would start working on it right away =:) Or if you are a beginner, I would instead introduce you to music and piano from scratch :-) You will also receive my feedback and suggestions in terms of how to approach the lessons, material to use, recommended length, what to focus on first, etc. I pretty much tailor my lessons individually, depending on what each person’s goals and skills are!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I got my Bachelors in Madrid (Spain) where I got accepted at age 16, being one of the only 5 candidates who were accepted in the Royal Conservatory of Madrid that year, out of about 100 applicants. I got my first Masters degree in Utrecht (The Netherlands) and my second one in USF (University of South Florida), where I was also a GA (Graduate Assistant). Then in 2015 I was offered a full TA (Teaching Assistantship) at the Univeristy of Memphis TN after auditioning for a Doctorate degree in Piano Performance. There I was teaching class piano for about 3 years and got a minor in Music Theory. I have also won prices in piano competitions, performed around Europe and USA since, have played as a soloist with chamber orchestras, and more. All my teachers since I started playing piano at an early age are renown musicians in the classical world, and I feel fortunate I had the chance to learn my piano technique and artistry from musicians of such a high caliber. I also LOVE teaching and have near 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages (4yrs old- 68years Old) and levels.
