About this pro

How does your service stand out?

I'm patient and relaxed. I'm happy to take students that have only a keyboard (that's how I started), students that don't practice enough, and students that are very young. Many piano instructors don't teach these kinds of students but I do.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

It's really fun working with so many different personalities and levels. Learning the piano is hard and it's fun to watch a student discover that they're pretty good at playing the piano.

Ms. Michelle is the best teacher that I have heard about. She takes an interest in each student and tailoring her instruction to ensure each students is getting what they need. Each student is challenged, but only as far as she believe they would like. She encourages students to participate in music exams, festivals and audition; and helps them prepare for them. Each student has an idea of the music they like to play and will try to stay within their comfort zone. She tries to get them to go outside of their comfort zones and try a variety of music, which helps them play other music that would not have on their own. Not only does she teach them to play music, she encourages and helps them read and write music. She is very patient, communicates well and seems to enjoy helping students learn music. Our daughter has been going to her for 5 years and will continue to so. We ask our daughter every year do you want to continue with music lessons, knowing that this means: we pay and she practices, and our daughter is always adamant that she wants to continue. I believe Ms. Michelle has contributes to her desire to continue playing music, because of the her dedication to each student. I recommend Michelle Ayler to anyone who mentions they are looking for a good piano teacher.

My children have been taking lessons here for 6 years and have learned so much and become really great pianists - all due to the instructor at MEA piano. She is a great teacher and I recommend her to everyone I meet!

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For younger students, MEA Piano Studio offers all new students a free trial lesson. This way students can see if they like the instructor. Students are not pressured to register with the studio at the end of the trial lesson. For adults, MEA Piano Studio offers new students a thirty minute trial lesson for $25. Adults learn a few scales and technical pieces. This helps adults decide if they really want to learn how to play the piano. Many adults discover that learning the piano is harder than they thought!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Before beginning MEA Piano Studio, I majored in Music Composition at Radford University. And before that, I attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.
MEA Piano studio offers lessons at various lengths (15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes). Current rates are $165 a month for a 30 minute lesson each week. Discounts are available if students sign-up for automatic payments.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
After graduating I decided to teach piano part-time but realized I really liked working with young musicians. I started MEA Piano Studio a few years after working as an in-home piano instructor.
What types of customers have you worked with?
MEA Piano Studio works with students of all ages and levels and practice habits. The studio has also worked with students that have learning disabilities or other difficulties.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
"Piano is a life long skill." ~ ~ MEA Piano Studio ~ ~
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would advise parents looking for a good piano instructor to make an effort to find an instructor that is involved with local musical organizations. And being involved, means more than just paying annual dues. MEA Piano Studio students are very active and participate in many non-competitive activities each year.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Before contacting MEA Piano Studio please: 1. Think about your goals for your child or yourself. 2. Discuss whether regular practice is realistic for the student (15-20 minutes *every day*). 3. Discuss what kind of piano (digital or acoustic) to purchase for the student in the future, assuming the student sticks with piano.
