Should you tip piano tuners?

Tipping piano tuners isn’t customary. If you had a great experience with a piano tuner, you can also show your appreciation by leaving a review on Thumbtack.

What happens if you don't tune a piano?

Tunings can help prevent damage and maintain your piano. When you tune your piano, you’re correcting its pitch. So if you go too long without tuning your piano, the pitch will likely drop — which can add tension to your piano’s structure, according to the Piano Technicians Guild.

Is piano tuning hard?

Tuning a piano can be difficult if you haven’t done it before and don’t have the correct tools. For example, you’ll need a piano tuning lever, tips, electronic chromatic tuner and mutes. If you don’t have the tools or experience, you might be better off hiring a professional to tune your piano.

Is it worth tuning an old piano?

It may be worth tuning your old piano, especially if it’s highly valued or has sentimental value. Bring your piano to an expert piano tuner. They can assess your instrument and help you determine if it can be restored.

Why do my piano keys squeak?

If your piano keys are squeaking, it may be because something is stuck between the keys. Or, your piano may be dirty. You may be able to fix your keys. If not, hire a professional to take a look at the problem and perform the repairs.

How often should you tune a piano?

Some experts recommend tuning your piano at least two or four times a year, according to the Piano Technicians Guild. You should always see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific piano. And you should schedule additional tunings as needed.

How long does piano tuning take?

Tuning your piano might take a few hours or less. Before your appointment, ask your piano tuner how long the process will take.

Reviews for Alexandria piano tuning professionals

My piano sounds great! He did an excellent and thorough job and brought his tuner machine as well as various tools to do the job. He also educated me on my piano mechanics. I will call him back for my next tuning. I enjoyed his conversation and his background is in engineering and he does woodworking so he is fully equipped to fix hammer action or whatever.

My upright piano has been in need of a tuning for years, but since I’ve lived in apartment, I kept putting it off. However, when I decided to get it tuned I checked out Thumbtack and E. Pain Custom Shop came up as a top recommendation. I can see why! Within 5 minutes of my inquiry I’d heard back from him, and he scheduled me for the next day. He was communicative before the visit, gave me an estimate right up front, was incredibly professional and clear as he explained what he was seeing with my piano. Then we got to the good part — he spent a good amount of time tuning my piano — nothing felt rushed — and the results are amazing. My 20+ year old piano hasn’t sounds this good in years! I had a dehumidifier that had stopped working, which he explained the benefits of replacing and is looking into a quote for me. As we discussed this and other concerns I had, he listened and gave thoughtful answers. At no time did I feel pressured or like there was any “up-sell” going on. In fact, he was conservative in his estimate of when I’ll next need a tune. I feel like I’ve found my permanent piano tuner — if you’re like me and have been putting this off for too long, I’d say book him now! You will only regret that you didn’t get your piano sounding its best sooner.
