This company did an amazing job!!! I'm half way across the world and there was a mice and roach infestation in one of my properties because the tenant next door is a hoarder. They took care of the problem and I was able to pay by phone. #LifeCustomer

Verify professional, thorough, and reasonably priced. I hired Adam Johnson Pest Control for a German roach infestation at one of my rental properties. Both Adam and Penny seamlessly communicated and coordinated treatment appointments with my tenants. They were proactive with communication and kept me abreast of progress and updates, which is always much appreciated as a landlord. Latest feedback from my tenants was that the problem has improved significantly. They have one more treatment to go and the issue should be resolved permanently. I would recommend this company to anyone in a similar situation.

Provided outstanding service on schedule. Bill explained what he was doing and informed us what product he was using and what we needed to do and expect after treatment. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He treated areas where we have roach problems and hopefully this will eliminate the problem.

We had a mild roach infestation -- catching a few German cockroaches a day in non-toxic roach traps in the kitchen. The "roach motel" traps were not solving the problem. We used Thumbtack to search professionals who could come out and treat the outbreak. This is where we found My Guy Pest Professionals. Leslie, the owner, proved to be a great hire. He was on-time, courteous, enthusiastic, thorough, thoughtful and professional. We asked several questions before scheduling an appointment and he answered each question in a timely manner. Less than a day after receiving the quote he was here to assess and treat the problem. We appreciated his fast response and for taking the time to explain the various approaches to effectively treating roach infestations, as well as offering detailed explanations on the chemicals used to treat the house (primarily the kitchen). He completed the assessment and treatment in about 90 minutes. We were happy with the service and would use My Guy Pest Professionals again and recommend the company to others.

Mike was fantastic in every way. He responded to my call right away and came out that day to do an inspection. He treated our moderate bed bug infestation and after two treatments, we are no longer getting bitten. I can finally sleep with peace of mind thanks to Mike. He is the best pest control I have had the pleasure of working with and really cares about his clients. The best part? He stands by his work and offers a 6 month warranty! He means business. If you hire Mike, say goodbye to your bed bug problem.

I found coordinating a service appointment was very easy via phone and email. The technician, Jeff, did a fantastic job. He showed me what he was looking for, he de-webbed everything to see if there were any issues I hadn't identified. He treated the areas I needed, and a few extra areas to be sure of the results. I was moving boxes in the basement later that day and pleasantly surprised to NOT find any live insects. This will be my pest treatment company in the future.

I found a roach in my townhome, and my exterminator, nor any other "big name" companies were open because of the holiday weekend. David had no problem coming of the day of. He was extremely personable, professional and quick! He explained what he used and how it worked, and made me feel much more comfortable again. His prices CANNOT be beat! I 100% recommend him to anyone looking for an exterminator! He was great!

Wow. Talk about an honest company.... I tried to give them more money, because I wanted a bunch of other preventative measures. It was explained that I didn't need anything more because I did not have a large roach infestation. No more roaches and a great service.

This is a compliment to Chris for what he didn't do. I thought I was getting a baby roach infestation, but it turned out to be some sort of bug (forget the name) that he said feeds off trees and will disappear in a few days. He said that there were no problems, they would go away on his own, and while he could apply a treatment for the few existing bugs (haven't seen a lot, but was still annoying), it wouldn't stop others so he would recommend just having the patience to have this pass. He also gave advice on what I should ask the condo association to do so that this is minimized for next year. I was blown away with his honesty and that he considered this a free inspection, so no charge. If I do need an exterminator, or are asked to recommend one in the future, I'm going to use Chris.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
