Excellent Job! I called him last minute and he squeezed me in with his busy schedule. He came in a very timely manner. He mowed my lawn, trimmed the bushes and cut some of our tree branches and charge us with a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend him.

He was running a little late, so he called to let me know. He completely cleaned and flushed all my gutters and installed gutter guards as reaching my roof with a tree nearby isn't an easy task. He's a hard worker and cleans up after himself. I would recommend him for any service you may need to do to the exterior of your home. Thanks again!

With the impending paths of Irma predicted last week I needed a large Oak trimmed back from off the house just in case winds picked up to prevent the tree from possibly falling on the house. Brent was able to not only rearrange for an emergency cutting as the tree had several limbs over not only the driveway but over several sections of the house and a few leaning towards the neighbor's house. His crew arrived promptly around 830 and was limbing up the tree a little after 9. He brought both a chipper and a large trailer truck to make sure that all clean up is taken care off on site. Several times someone from the crew came and to make sure that I was happy with how the tree looked and to make sure that there were not any additional branches that needed to be trimmed back. Clean up was a breeze as well, they raked up small branches as they went, the saw dust was blown off my roof, sidewalks and driveway, they even swept up the road to make sure that sawdust wouldn't make it towards the storm drains. I had a neighbor swing by and ask for some of the logs and they helped him load up the smaller ones and kept a side pile for additional pick up. Overall I would recommend Brent and his crew again. In fact, when I need to have some stumps ground out soon, I'll be hiring him again.

Mr. Fly responds to messages very quickly whether it's a phone call or text or email. He removed one big maple tree from my front yard, ground its stump, filled the hole with topsoil and seeded grass fro me. He also helped me to remove surface roots, as well as some surface roots that do not belong to that tree. He also trimmed the giant oak tree in my backyard, and the magnolia in front yard. He treated fungi as I requested. He has all the professional equipment, got job done quickly. He offers a great price (ask for price match), gets the job done quickly, and is very easy to work with. I will use his service again if I need to. You can definitely have trust in him!

My front lawn was a big mound with the remains of an old pine tree in the middle. Land levelers removed the old stump and decaying root system and corrected the grade with respect to the sidewalk and driveway. Finally seeded for a new lawn. All done in a timely manner.

Roland and his team were great to work with! They placed our satisfaction as their top priority. Very professional and accommodating, these guys are top notch and very reasonably priced! Bluegrass Lawn Care came out and did the work on the same day. They cut back 6 branches of tree and made the house safer. The team arrived as scheduled, did the work exactly as specified, and left the worksite clean. I strongly recommend the Bluegrass Lawn Care, very pleased with the work!

Thaddeus and crew did a PHENOMENAL job trimming back a giant tree that was very close to my home with minimal damage to my deck below (some minor bumps and scrapes to be expected and a slight slip up with a chainsaw). They completed everything as discussed at the consultation and for the price agreed upon, leaving everything very neat and orderly afterwards. One of the workers kept trying to guilt me into giving him a $40 cash tip but I had already put my entire savings into this project (they only accept cash or checks, no card). I politely declined because even if I wanted to, I couldn’t have afforded the extra expense on top of what was already agreed on in writing. I made it a goal to ensure they had plenty of water to stay hydrated instead. Professionalism aside, I am still choosing to give them five stars to accompany my honest review because I am still happy with the outcome of the job and their workmanship is top notch, given the difficulty of the tree’s location. I am also very impressed with their punctuality, as they were willing to start immediately after taking the deposit. Unfortunately, we had to delay to the next day due to safety concerns from the impending weather. They arrived right on time, and worked until the job was done taking only one break for lunch. Overall, I would probably hire these three gentlemen again if the need arises.

My experience was excellent. All employees were professional, personable and courteous. They were punctual, did all the work that was expected and left my property looking like they had never taken down a 30 foot tree. They even blew all the dead leaves out of my front yard and hauled absolutely everything away. I highly recommend Arbor Tree Service.

First and foremost, I would like to express extreme gratitude towards Brandon and Nick. They completed my project through multiple complications including pouring rain, tree roots, a neighborly dog, and complicated transits. They were more than willing to complete the work in the quoted timeframe despite aforementioned roadblocks. I greatly appreciate the work provided and look forward to working with them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
