I am a dancer trained in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe and modern. I am available for teaching, choreography and master classes. Jordan is a native Memphian who began dancing at the age of three. She studied dance at local studios until the age of 13 when she began training at Ballet Memphis. While in the school, Jordan was asked to perform with the Ballet Memphis Company in "The Nutcracker," "South of Everywhere," and "Cinderella." To further her training, Jordan also studied at Nashville Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, and North Carolina Dance Theater. Upon graduation, Jordan joined Ballet Memphis Company as a trainee. Favorite ballet credits include "Swan Lake," "Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Juggler," "Piano Concerto No. 1," and "Snow White." She caterwauled her way around the country in her childhood dream role as Victoria in the 30th Anniversary Broadway National Tour of CATS. Her favorite credits include Mary Poppins (The Fireside), CATS (North Music Theatre and Theatre By The Sea), "Radio City Christmas Spectacular," "S Wonderful" (Leslie), "Legally Blonde" (Serena/associate choreographer), "How To Succeed" (regional premier/dance captain), "The Producers" (Dance Captain), and "Celebrity Cruises." Jordan also spends time choreographing and teaching for dance schools and regional theaters. She recently had the honor to choreograph "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Pride and Prejudice" at Cape Fear Regional Theatre. This past spring, she was the associate choreographer/director for "Legally Blonde" at Cape Fear Regional Theatre. Jordan was also assistant choreographer for "The Drowsy Chaperon" and "Legally Blonde" at Playhouse On The Square. Jordan choreographed the ballets -- "Beauty and the Beast," "Alice in Wonderland," "Wizard of Oz" and excerpts of "The Little Mermaid." Jordan takes every opportunity to teach around the country to diversify her teaching and mentoring. This summer, Jordan will be performing in Mary Poppins and Spamalot at Theatre By The Sea in Wakefield, Rhode Island.See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do you wear to swing dance lessons?

Swing dance is an increasingly popular style of ballroom dance with a dress code that reflects its roots in the 1920s-1940s jazz era. Although many studios don’t require historically accurate costumes for their private dance lessons, many dancers want to dress the part. You can wear clothes that are comfortable to move — and sweat — in, such as T-shirts and loose skirts or khakis. Or for an appropriately vintage look, women often wear shirt dresses with a knee-length A-line or circle skirt that allows for plenty of swishy movement. Men usually opt for a button-down shirt and trousers. The most important part of a swing dance outfit is the shoes. Both men and women can opt for simple sneakers, like Keds, or leather dance shoes, such as saddle shoes. Until you have several dance lessons under your belt, stay away from heels.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
