The crew did a great job. I've hired movers before and I was surprised with hidden fees and/or the movers with the phone to their ear. Thus definitely wasn't the case with Dulles Logistics - hard working, professional and willingness to go the extra mile. I highly recommend them.

Thanks a lot Baku Moving for completing my move within the scheduled time and for charging me a very moderate amount. But I would like to thank you especially for a perfect move. I was never hoping to get such a brilliant service from any movers. The moving crew was simply too good for my move. Nothing was missing, nothing is broken or damaged. It seemed like the entire move was tailor made for me.

Your search is done...Hire Zebna Movers! Professional, thorough, and respectful movers! Stefan and his team made the move so much less stressful for us. They were on time, called a half hour before arrival, handled our stuff well (wrapped them for protection and generally careful) and completed the move within a reasonable amount of time and as a bonus they were very polite and cheerful the whole time even during moments they did not need to be. Just amazing.

Anthony and Eastbay were so great during my recent move- I had blocked off an hour to move a small load to a truck to drive out-of-state and they got it done efficiently. Everything was in it's place and packed perfectly. I can't recommend Eastbay Movers enough!!

Overall a great experience. The movers were about 45 minutes late, but were professional and everything was moved in great shape. Communication with Fred went really well and you couldn't beat the price. I'd recommend SkyRide for a smaller move, one bedroom or studio - thanks for your help!

Tim was amazing, traffic was horrible so he called me 40 mins out to let me know he could be a bit late. I knew he was telling the truth because my movers called to say the same thing. When he got to my place he had all the tools needed and jumped right in. He also played the most amazing music, so it helped things go by more quickly. He hung my large mirror, several pictures, and helped my boyfriend assemble the furniture. Also, his prices for the service couldn't be beat. What I loved most is that he didn't sit around he worked straight through. I'm going to hire him again in a few weeks to hang a few other things. Can't way enough about how amazing it all was. If you need some help hire him.

Like most people when it gets to be the end of a move-out month, things get stressful and worries mount about being able to get "all that furniture" moved in time. I was under such stress for the past two weeks...UNTIL TODAY when Po's Moving pulled up. It was not just a godd experience, it was phenomenal! I was simply aamzed at how safely, securely, and most importantly QUICKLY they emptied out my seemingly insurmountable amount of apartment furnishings and transproted them to their destination. Seriously, I don't rave about service these days as usually there's nothing to rave about. Po and his crew however? Well and truly OUTSTANDING. Great personalities (singing while they worked LOL), obviously skilled at their trade, well dressed in uniforms, etc. An absolutely perfect moving experience. Now having said all that, I want to STRESS the thing we all stress the MOST about if we are here seeking movers...the ridiculously high costs. I had no less than 11 movers answer my calls for aid here and Po's beat them HARSHLY on price! I still can't believe it was as cheap as it was for all the work they did and the traveling to my location and all. YOU WILL NOT GET A BETTER PRICE FROM ANYONE on here...in some cases, Po's was over $250 LESS than other quote on here. So please, if you are intensely stressed about your move, and you have a deadline lease-wise, USE PO'S MOVING! I am sitting here writing this with such a sense of relief that they somehow did SO MUCH in such little time! WAY TO GO PO'S A+++++ and 6 STARS if I could!

We used Relocation Solutions, Inc. for our office move, and they were absolutely amazing! From the first site visit to working around problems leading up to the move, to dealing with people, and to mastering difficult situations (like blocked loading ramps) - Greg and his team provided stellar service! Estimates were spot-on, planning and communications were superb, and the team's invaluable can-do attitude turned this move into a great experience (and who can say that about a move!?). The moving crew was experienced, professional, courteous, careful, efficient, and FAST. Relocation Solutions left everybody impressed, including our landlord. We are very happy to have chosen Relocation Solutions. Even if you can find cheaper movers: a good mover makes all the difference- and that is what you get with Greg. Five stars for Relocation Solutions.

Great experience with Moving with us. These guys arrived on time, packed everything and got my belongings to my new place safely. I was very weary because I have expensive items and sentimental items. Instead of doing the move myself I decided to try a moving company and was recommended to these guys by a friend. And he was right, the movers were professional and very reliable. One of the movers told me he'd been doing this work for over 6 years, so these guys are experienced and top notch. Nothing was damaged, nothing stolen. I will definitely be using their services again!

I used Ground Force One to move our piano - My questions were answered almost immediately, it was the best price, the movers were on time, friendly, polite and efficient. The movers were concerned about tracking in wet feet and asked to have something to wipe their feet on. I would use them again, and highly recommend Ground Force One.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to cancel my previously booked movers and find someone else at the last minute. I posted my project on Thumbtack and VKH Movers gave me the best price for the area and my needs. There were late to my job, but communicated early and often about the situation (they were finishing a move in Richmond and were coming to me in Alexandria). They were able to move all of the large furniture in my apartment to my new townhouse about 20 minutes away in less than 3 hours. They even spent time wrapping my furniture and television. Nothing was damaged and none of my walls scratched despite an oversized loveseat making its way to the third floor of my town house with two landings. My neighbors were less than friendly and helpful to them in using the entryway and elevators at my apartment, but they took it in stride and completed the job professionally. I would highly recommend them, especially for the fantastic price.

NewRay movers were extremely fast, careful, nice, very professional and friendly. I was pleased with the effort to conduct my move professionally and timely! The crew was really great and I want them for my move from storage to the house, once the build is finished! Would highly recommend their services. Will use you all again!

Gary arrived at the peak of a terrible storm but that didn't stop him from getting loaded up. He was polite and professional throughout his whole time here. He responded promptly to my texts and updated me as he approached the drop off destination. After the drop off, he sent me pictures showing that the items in fact had been unloaded at designated destination. It was a pleasure working with Gary and I would recommend him to anyone needing a mover.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
