From start to finish I was 110% satisfied with Stumpbusters Tree Service. Their cost was very competitive. Their workers were very courteous and professional and the owner Steve Childress was very responsive to all questions. They were hired to remove three large trees which they cut down, ground the stumps and hauled away all excess mulch. They arrived on time and completed the job ahead of time. I will use them for any tree cutting needs I may have in the future and I would highly recommend them to anyone needing tree removal services.

My front lawn was a big mound with the remains of an old pine tree in the middle. Land levelers removed the old stump and decaying root system and corrected the grade with respect to the sidewalk and driveway. Finally seeded for a new lawn. All done in a timely manner.

I contacted Mr Williams over the weekend and within a few hours, he came over and met with me about my lawn. By the end of the same day, he already had a plan (spring clean up, leaf removal, grass cutting, bush trimming, etc) ready for me, as well as what each would cost for each service. He came the next day to get my yard ready for spring and took up all of the millions of leaves (even in the bushes and beds!). I'm not even sure if my yard looked this good when I moved in. I'm so very happy with his work and would recommend it to all!

Words cannot describe how happy we are with the quality of work and professionalism. We asked for a difficult job to be done due to 20 pine trees on our property and not only did they meet our request, but they exceeded our expectations! So happy to have them return regularly!!

Jeffrey offered a really great deal for 3 tree removals -- and beat out all other quotes. They came to give me an estimate -- then as soon as I accepted, they did the job on the spot. They worked quickly and efficiently. We are very satisfied with the quality of the work done as well as the value for the work done. I highly recommend Arbor Brothers.

Two thumbs up from my wife and me regarding the excellent lawn care service Jasper Gutierrez has been providing for us now for over a year. He's on time, contacts us if weather is an issue. For us he does lawn mowing, edging, removing weeds and spraying in flower beds, cleaning out gutters, raking up leaves, installing pavers--he and his team do it all, high quality, to our satisfaction. He's hard-working, honest, reliable, and competitive in price. He goes above and beyond and goes not stop until the job is done to our satisfaction. He has kept us happy, and we are glad to share our excellent rating of his services. We live in Denbigh off Menchville Rd. in N.N.

All I can say about this company is WOW!!!! I have never been more impressed with a company I have hired. We had some construction waste to get rid of in Sandbridge in Virginia Beach. Sunnyside was the first to respond, but when I saw they are from Smithfield, VA I contacted another company since we are 1 1/2 hours away. Believe it or not, they contacted me and said they would be here in a few hours. Sure enough, they came and were the most pleasant guys and worked very quickly to remove our junk. I was amazed at the positive attitudes and work ethics, so I have already hired them again to come cut down a tree! Literally, don't get any other quotes, go with Sunnyside Landscaping for anything you need done around your house! Truly honest guys that work hard.

Skyler reached out to me very quickly after submitting my job. He said he would be at my house at 8 to pull weeds and when I looked outside at 7:57, he was already at work pulling them. He was very polite and professional and more importantly, he did a great job and got every last weed out of my garden. I’ll definitely hire him again

Joseph was outstanding! Provided him an address, explained which tree I needed removed.. then came by after he was done... not a crumb of debris left. Usually I still have cleaning up to do after a tree crew is done - but not with Joseph and his folks. Thanks!

Professional removal of trees (authorized by approved Tree Removal permit) on my property that blocked the sunlight from the small wetlands being developed by me and the local authorities as part of a "Living Shoreline" project. Professional results, removal and clean-up. Would recommend for future use.

Our renovation included removing old flooring and carpeting, gutting the downstairs powder room, renovate wood staircase, repair damaged walls and trim wood, replace and install all new light fixtures and fans throughout house, replace all door hardware and paint 3 rooms, doors and large tall foyer. Rick's attention to detail, professional recommendations and diverse contracting skills resulted in outstanding results in our home. We have more rooms to renovate, plus deck work to do and will definitely choose this contractor again. He also has a very good power washing crew.

Champs took down a 80 ft pine tree over my house last week and gave me a great price. Tyler was there at 7am sharp with a crew of 4 and they were gone by 3pm !!! I would recommend them to anyone that needs major tree work. They also do landscaping in the summer for my parents and a coworker.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
