The job required installation of several floor cabinets in a kitchen. On one side the cabinets were raised off the floor, mounted away from the wall, and a butcher block counter top cut and installed. On the other, sink side, a cabinet was installed and all cabinets on that wall were leveled to allow for installation of a counter top. The individual doing the job provided ideas on how to proceed and worked quickly to provide a quality product. He was willing to work around the clock to complete the installation and worked continuously while on site. I trust his judgement and his work ethic is above reproach. I would certainly recommend him for any job you may have.

Our house was flooded by Hurricane Matthew and we hired Don plaster, paint, install floors, and fix cabinet trim and bead board. Don was ALWAYS on time, communicated effectively, did what he said he would do, and the final product is a home that shows feels like nothing ever happened. We would certainly recommend him as we will continue to use his services for future jobs!

I hired Greg to replace some wood planks in my deck. While pulling up old planks, he discovered the main framing was rotted. He rebuilt the frame and an entire section of the deck, along with several planks. He also sturdied-up the railings on the deck. Superb job! Reasonably priced! Would definitely recommend his services! Thanks, Greg!

Josh did a great job custom building and installing several slide-out drawers in my existing pantry cabinets. A slight miscalculation in sizing of one cabinet necessitated him coming back out promptly a second time to complete the job. He was professional, courteous, fair in pricing, and readily in touch whenever I called or texted him. I would recommend him, and would use him again.

Mark did a whole bunch of small jobs for us in a house we were getting ready to move in. Everything from a concrete repair to GFCI installation to cabinet repair. It was great to have one person who could do it all. He was professional, friendly, flexible, and well priced. I will call him again in the future and I recommend his services.

Okay, so I'm kind of picky. I didn't really know what I wanted in a bench, but I wanted something special for our new home. We hired Alan Dunn of Beach Custom Woods to build a 7' custom wooden bench for our new home; he allowed me to pick out the piece of wood at a local lumber yard. Within a couple of days he had built the bench top and used leftover wood for the legs. He even delivered it! Our family and friends that have seen the bench on Facebook or in person have raved about how much they like it. I am SO happy with the results and would HIGHLY recommend Beach Custom Woods! Thanks Alan!

Mr. Vanhoose, "Capn Larry" is a handyman extraordinaire. He has worked on two different houses for me, one my Mother's house and the other my own. On my Mother's house he replaced wood paneling that had damage due to a roof leak. He also went way beyond and helped to semi-remodel her bathroom making it warmer and more functional. He put in a ceramic surround making the gas fireplace more safe and beautiful. In my house he has gone beyond to research how to put in an engineered wood floor. It looks just beautiful. In addition, has has worked on two of my bathrooms and my kitchen. Great plumbing as well as tile work. He is pretty prompt, honest, and hard working. Ladies (and gents), he may look like a geezer, however, he is a gentleman.

We needed additional book shelf/cabinet space desperately and wanted the finished work accomplished in a very specific way, using the otherwise "empty" space on either side of a living room fireplace. Successfully translating any such requirement into a practical, affordable and pleasing solution is the mark of a true craftsman. Such was our experience with Tony Casanave. From his original design through the many small adjustments, selection of the finest materials, and ultimate accomplishment of the casework, Toney Casanave was approachable, available and accommodating.. He made very clear what was doable and what was not. Everyone has been extremely pleased with the results. We certainly anticipate using his excellent services again for future casework needs.

Bryan was super helpful. He got exactly what I wanted at a good price. After he saw the pictures I sent and got the dimensions he let me know he could get it done in a couple of hours. He told me since I was just painting he could just make my cabinet doors out of MDF which worked out great. If you need a custom cabinet guy Bryan is you guy he takes the time to find out what you want and communicates very well with you on the different options you have. Look forward to doing business with you again Bryan.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

      How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
