Introduction: I have a B.A. in Linguistics and in History, minor in German, from the College of William & Mary, as well as 2 years of graduate coursework in Communication Sciences and Disorders (Speech Pathology Clinical M.S.) from JMU. My own successes in the world of academia and love of learning have informed my awareness of the processes, strategies, and tactics that go into successful learning, and my 15 years of work with kids, including 3 years (when combined) of work with those with I.D. and E.D., have taught me strategies to motivate and set up behavioral rewards that work. Getting book suggestions and cultural knowledge from tweens, stumbling across and then getting to introduce someone to the concept of "The Cold War," seeing measurable successes and confidence gains in my students.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I was recently trained by C2 Education to tutor to the New SAT. I completed my Teaching English as a Foreign Language training in July and should have my certificate by the end of August.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask what the tutor will do if your child isn't successful or making gains after the first 3-5 sessions--knowing what kind of repair and reassessment strategies are in their back-pocket will help prepare you to support them and set a good precedent for communication. Ask what you can do to help with homework and generalization at home, and communicate about how much homework you would like to be given--to both the tutor AND your child.
