FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Base price includes components: labor, materials (shingles, underlayment, flashing), disposal/hauling, and permitting when required. Common additional fees: structural repairs (rot, sheathing), ice-and-water shield in valleys, upgraded ventilation, and skylight/chimney flashing work. Waste disposal: typically charged per dumpster or per ton; some quotes include it, others itemize. Roof deck repairs: minor repairs often included up to a limit; major sheathing replacement is extra—ask for per-sheet or per-square pricing. Material tiers: expect significant price differences between economy, mid, and premium shingles (and between 3-tab, architectural, and premium designer lines). Labor warranties vs. manufacturer warranties: labor warranty terms and length vary; manufacturer warranties may require specific underlayments/installation to remain valid. Seasonal discounts and promotions: We offer $700.00 off full roof or siding replacements projects. Finance and payment terms: down payments are common at 50% before and after the project is completed. Insurance claims: We will assist you in filing an insurance claim as your technical advisor and will coordinate all required inspections with with your insurer. We only ask that we are the contractor of choice once the claim is approved. Discounts: ask about veteran/senior, multi-job, referral, or cash-pay discounts.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initial outreach: I gather the customer's contact info, property address, and a brief description of the roof issue or project type (repair, replacement, new install, leak, etc.). Schedule inspection: Book an on-site roof inspection at a mutually convenient time; confirm access instructions and any safety considerations. On-site assessment: Inspect roof condition (shingles/tiles, flashing, underlayment, vents, gutters, decking), measure roof pitch and area, note problem areas, take photos and notes, and check attic for leaks or ventilation issues. Diagnosis & options: Determine root causes and prepare 2–3 practical options (e.g., targeted repair, partial replacement, full replacement) with pros/cons, expected lifespan, and recommended materials. Estimate & scope: Produce a written proposal with itemized costs (labor, materials, permits, disposal), timeline, warranty details, and payment terms; include visuals or markup of the roof when helpful. Review & decision: Walk the customer through the proposal (in person, by phone, or video), answer questions, and adjust scope if needed. Obtain signed contract and any required deposit. Permits & prep: Pull required permits, order materials, schedule crews, and advise the customer on site prep (vehicles moved, fragile items protected, pets secured). Installation/repair: Perform work to the agreed scope with daily progress updates as needed; maintain a safe, tidy work area and dispose of debris properly (magnet sweeps for nails). Final inspection & walkthrough: Walk the customer through completed work, demonstrate fixes, provide warranty documents and maintenance recommendations, and collect final payment. Follow-up: Check in after a few weeks/months to confirm satisfaction and address any punch-list items; honor warranty and respond promptly to any callbacks.
