The job was for removal of an old fence and installation of a new one. The quality of the build was top notch. Built a true custom fence, using actual 4x4 post, 2x4s and individual planks instead of the pre build crap. Very professional build crew and staff. Highly recommend!!!

Replace 2 sliding glass doors in condo in Town Center area of Virginia Beach. Did the job in a very timely and professional manner. Accidentally broke a window in the repair but appears to be handling it as quickly as possible now thankfully. Otherwise, great experience and very nice guy.

Ricky Shakallis contacted us on the same day we asked for a quote. Ricky and his crew came out several days later to complete a gutter installation job on our house. His pricing for this job was very good and he did an outstanding job installing our gutters. Ricky went over the plans for installing the gutters with us and wanted to make sure that he understood exactly what we wanted. Ricky is a true professional. After the gutters were installed, his crew cleaned up the areas around our home and took the old gutters away. After the crew left, you would never have known that there was a gutter replacement job on the property. We were highly satisfied with the work that Ricky and his crew completed. We will definitely use Ricky and his company again! Kathy and Ron C., Chesapeake, VA.

After a water event, Lee assisted with the repairs by completing the final details such as: Sheetrock finishing, painting, baseboard installation, and commercial carpet square replacement. He was courteous, on-time, and able to work with our requirement that the project be completed over 1 weekend.

Re: Fence/Mailbox Installation - Burgess is truly knowledgeable in their trade. In fact, it was necessary for them to identify errors with the materials order the material supplier/pro were unable to determine. This resulted in at least two reschedules for the job. Their response was very professional.

Brandon and team did an amazing job on a challenging fence installation. Brandon was polite, knowledgeable and patient with me as I explored (and explored and explored) various fence options before finding one that I was happy with and that met my budget. In addition to building a custom fence for a picky customer, the team had to contend with concrete-like soil, mosquito infestation, poison ivy and crazy downpours... and yet, they never complained-- not one of them. When we ran into a rainy spell, I felt sure that the project would be delayed, but nope... they pitched a couple of tents and kept going. Customer service like that is rare. I'd hire them again for sure!

This company is amazing to work with. First, the salesperson, Hinton, is very responsive, informative and not at all pushy. Great guy! He even stopped by one day while the installation crew was here to make sure things were going well. The windows and patio door we had installed are of very high quality. Awesome product! Love them!! The installation crew is fantastic!!! From the first day , courteous, respectful, meticulous. They clean as they work, never saw anything like it. They take pride in their work and it shows in their precision and workmanship. They take their time to make sure it gets done right and we appreciate that. No rush job. When they left you never knew they were here. Amazing!!! Can’t say enough about CVP. They will be our only go to company for any window service. You will not be disappointed. AND they have fair pricing!!!!

Jay is an exceptional professional. His manners are impeccable. He was timely and knew exactly how to install my new NEST thermostat. At $100, he provided a quote no one else could match. I originally called the NEST installers and they quoted $250. Jay provided excellent value. I highly recommend this young man.

When I helped Daniel Mujica and his wife purchase a home in 2015, a storm did major damage to the vinyl siding prior to closing, and the listing agent hired Daniel to perform the repairs. I was extremely impressed with the speed with which he resolved the issues and the quality of his workmanship. One year later, I hired Daniel to install several staircases on a property I was selling & he did a TERRIFIC job. I would highly recommend Olenka construction whether the job is big or small. 😀 Madonna Bossa Agent - Chantel Ray Real Estate

Jason and company are almost halfway through renovating my 4 bedroom, 3 bath condo that experienced massive flood damage. Work completed or nearly completed include ceiling drywall replacement, scraping, texturing, and painting. J&N has also replaced a section of damaged subfloor near a shower, installed kitchen drywall, and replaced the shutoff valves under the sink. Reasons I would recommend this company include: 1. Integrity - Jason shows up when he says he will and does what he says he is going to. If something goes wrong, he makes it right. 2. Proactive communication - he sends updates on progress, is very knowledgeable, accessible, and is a straight shooter. 3. Reasonable prices - Comparing to other estimates received, J&N's prices are fair. So far I am pleased at the quality and timeliness of the work.

I combined my master bedroom with a smaller bedroom to make a master suite. Chris Ward, owner of 1st Class Interiors Corp., performed the work which included expanding an existing closet in the smaller bedroom into a walk-in closet and expanding the opening between the two rooms so that it became one large suite with a sitting area and a new walk-in closet. They also did all of the drywall and finishing work in the project. A header had to be installed above the expanded opening because it was a weight-bearing wall. The end result is exactly what I had envisioned and the quality of the work was excellent and completed in the length of time that was projected.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
