I reached out to John and he came to inspect our system. He explained to us what was wrong and gave us different options to fix the issue. Ultimately our system would have to be replaced. Our system was upgraded for a great price, and the customer service we received from John and his associate was more than exceptional. I will be recommending Atlantic Coast Contractors to our friends and family for their cooling/heating system needs.

I used Thumbtack to find an HVAC company to help diagnose my problem with a 16 year old heat pump which quit cooling abruptly, with a boom. I decided on David Sloan Heating and Air, and couldn’t be happier. He responded in a matter of hours and explained in detail the problem. Our 16 year old compressor died! Rather than invest in a replacement, we decided to replace the entire system. I have a few years’ experience as an HVAC mechanic in the sixties and seventies, so I understood all he was saying. We decided to do a complete install of a new Rheem heat pump and air handler. The install was fast and very neat, and his pricing was extraordinary! We want to tell you how much I like our new heat pump and the auto changeover thermostat. During the days of cyclic temperatures my house will always be comfortable. I will not have to fool with the thermostat at all. For the past 16 years during the spring and fall seasons I always had to switch the thermostat back and forth between heat and AC. Now, no matter what the temp is outside, the house will always be comfortable The air handler is so awesome. I love the variable fan speed control and it is so quiet. It really stabilizes the temperature in the house. When you described how the variable speed control worked and how it stabilized the ambient temperature, it made sense to me and is why we decided to go with your recommendation. We’re so glad we followed your advice on buying this model. The temperature stabilization throughout the house is amazing. The same temperature from room to room. David Sloan is a true professional, and a man of his word. Everything he explained to us was correct. His knowledge of HVAC is unsurpassed! He is also a very nice and extremely polite person. His company is first rate. The quality of the installation was of paramount importance in ensuring the proper efficiency and durability of the unit purchased. Thank you David Sloan! From now on, David Sloan Heating and Air will be our ONLY HVAC choice! Thank you David Sloan, and thank you Thumbtack!

We chose Go Simple Energy (Airforce Heating & Cooling) to install our solar panels. This company is professional from the instant you contact them. The initial quote was approached with a focus on customer service. Jim McDowall (Vice President & Partner) and Ben Porter (Vice President of Design) were able to communicate key information to us in a way that we understood and we appreciated there was no assumption of expert knowledge on the subject matter. Ben was happy to get into technical details and provide us with thorough information (that we sincerely liked) throughout the entire process. We truly value the attention to detail they paid to our job (and our home) from the quote to the project completion. During installation days the crew working was polite and friendly as we continued to live our lives in our home. We never felt like leaving the home with them on the property was a mistake. They went above and beyond on our project several times and we really appreciate it. Airforce Heating & Cooling also helped us with our annual maintenance on our existing HVAC systems and their quality work continued. We can not express just how valuable it is to know that there are true professionals that offer such wonderful customer service on a home project.

In 2010, AACE SERVICES installed gas logs and ran a gas line for when I change the kitchen electric stovetop to gas. After that, I had a digital furnace thermostat installed that I received from Virginia Natural Gas which turned out to be a mistake since my heating system rejected it. I got a rotary Honeywell which was installed. A year and a half ago my furnace died and was replaced with a new Goodman furnace. In all these incidents, AACES SERVICES has been fair, prompt, reasonable and outstanding in service.

They were responsive and did a good job. They didn’t try to sell me a new heating system when a minor tweak would fix the 30 year old system

I live in an older home with radiator heat. I was without heat for 2 months while my home warranty company tried to find out why it wasn't working! They finally found a company who said it was probably the boiler (which would cost $8000!); however, in order to make sure..they would have to do some repairs which would run $3000! Then my home warranty said they could only pay $800.00! I told them that was OK.. that God was going to take care of me! Then I remembered Thumbtack!! So I went to the site and I put my information in and prayed! The first text that came up was A&E Heavenly Climates!! To make a long story short I hired them And they installed a whole new forced air furnace system for a small fraction of the cost! I talked to Erica on Monday..Anthony came by on the same day and give me an estimate and on Friday which was New Year's Day, they installed the system! They are both wonderful people and I truly believe I received a miracle on New Year's Day!! I made new friends and I will definitely hire them again!!!

I've been a customer of 7 Services for more years than I want to count; however, during all these years the services provided, heating, air conditioning, hot water heater and plumbing were found to be excellent and I had never had to recall the technician on any service provided. Appointments are answered on time and more often than not, early. Great company and I'm happy I chose 7 Services.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

      • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
      • The temperature cannot be regulated.
      • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
      • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
      • The thermostat isn’t working.
      • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

      • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
        • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
      • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
      • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
      • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

      • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
      • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
      • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
      • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
      • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
      • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
      • Cleaning and oiling the blower
      • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
      • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
      • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
