Honestly, I've never had a handyman of any sort as good as Tony was. He solved my perplexing ceiling fan light problem in no time at all, but more importantly, he came the day after I called him. (Because of previous plans of ours, we had a relatively narrow window of time today that he could come by. He told me to call him when our lunch meeting was over, which I did, and he was here 45 minutes later.) While he was here we decided to ask him about a range hood installation we have been talking about. Not only did he know exactly how it would work, but kept finding new ways to make it less expensive, with no demo needed. Does it all, and is obviously very competent. (And he gave me a price for today's work actually LESS than his quote, presumably because it was easier than he thought. Needless to say, I paid him what he had originally quoted.) Couldn't recommend more highly. And a really nice guy to boot.

We had a total of 4 bathrooms done including a complete master bathroom remodel as well as having the flooring in our master bedroom completely redone. These were not simple projects as we added rain showers, body jets, not only in our master but even to our upstairs shared bathroom. In our master bathroom a brand new jacuzzi tub installed, we had vented ceiling fans added even in bathrooms that never had anything there before. In order to get that kind of project complete you basically have to trust the people that are employed because you can't be in the house 24 hours a day. We were so comfortable with his staff that we basically just left the front door open all day and they would come and go and do work. Extremely nice guys, hard-working, I was 100% comfortable having them in the house even with a pet and teens. Anytime you have a project there are going to be issues that come up, a lot of times things may be found once a renovation starts, or maybe something needs to be changed Etc. Every single time I asked and brought that to the attention of Nilson the answer was always "no problem, we'll fix it" and it was fixed. I've added photos as best I could but it really doesn't do any justice to the level of workmanship. I also waited a little while before leaving a review to see if any issues arose and everything has been absolutely perfect. Honestly, if I ever have any work that needs to be done I'm going to work with Nilson, getting ready to have a window repaired here and will let them do the work. The other thing is you can tell they enjoy what they do. They always had a smile on her face. If you ever want to talk live go ahead and get my number from Nilson I'm happy to provide a personal reference.

I will start by saying I was not an easy customer to deal with. I needed an Anderson window repair to a house in Virginia whilst I was in the UK. I found David Grover through Thumbtack who went and inspected the work and spare parts required and gave me a very reasonable quotation. The work was completed earlier than expected and at the price quoted. David made it easy to deal with him and accepted payment via Paypal which helped me out enormously. Give him a chance if you need any of the services he offers. Very satisfied with the outcome on what could have been a difficult situation to resolve from afar.

I was very pleased with the work from LVC Construction. Shane made special arrangements to come out and give me a quote. He was willing to work on my double wide when most companies would not. He came on time to install my roof in 100 degree heat. He made sure the job was done correctly and it looks awesome.

Mr. Kitchen completed our junk removal project, then went on to address some other improvements we've been meaning to get done (installing light fixtures, replacing window sash). We look forward to using Mr. Kitchen's services in the future.

Randy responded very quickly and was able to come over and look at my house within a couple days. I had a leaking window and had no idea where the leak was coming from but he fixed everything up right away and was super responsive and easy to communicate with. Another company had previously quoted me $600 more than Randy did for the same job. Definitely will use him again for gutter/roofing services

I am a licensed real estate agent and I worked with Mike exclusively when he lived in New York. He did several projects for my clients to include window installations, door installations, a deck and a custom bath install for my boss. Mike is a very talented and knowledgeable professional and I recommend him highly. He is sorely missed in New York!

Everything went great,Drew called me when he was pulling into my driveway. The job was a large AC replacement with a new unit that was more efficient and had more features as well. While I am sure Drew has done this type of job many times, the man ACTUALLY took the time to read the installation manual which is a rarity in todays rush rush world.Bottom line is you wont regret giving your job to Drew.He happily took the agreed upon price without any arguing or stories to get more money from you. Project was to repair existing (older) windows so that they could open properly and lock. Steve was prompt, gave a fair assessment with explanation, and had the work completed when he said he would. I would definitely hire again, especially since I have a future window repair/installation project in the near future.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
