My daughter took lessons from Scott about a year ago. She was in the 7th grade and the only female percussionist in the marching and concert band at her middle school. Scott helped her to come out of her shell. At home, I would only hear her practice on her pad or her snare drum, (when it wasn't at school), so I never really knew how well she played. During one of her lessons, Scott had to come downstairs and talk to me about something. In the middle of the conversation, we both stopped talking and just listened. I said, "Is that her playing??", he gave a resounding yes! Assuming no one could hear her, she just let loose and went for it. She sounded awesome!! Much more advanced that either of us knew. Then Scott knew just how to challenge her.
Due to an unfortunate "cut in budget" on the home-front, we had to quit taking lessons. The following school year, her band teacher invited her to be the drummer for the Jazz band! What an honor. We knew it was due to the fact that Scott challenged her beyond what she thought she was capable of, and every lessons was filled with patience, a little humor, and a laid back atmosphere where there was no stress or anxiety. She always anticipated her lesson day.
We gave our recommendation of Scott Watts to my daughter's band teacher after she saw such great results in her ability and confidence. Now, she could confidently refer her percussionist, (present and future), to a teacher with such high praise and reputation.
We have kept in touch with Scott and look forward to being able to resume lessons again, hopefully soon!
As recently as today, the pastor at our church and the worship team leader asked if my daughter would be interested in playing the drums for the worship team! What a huge honor.
