Cam and Emily painted the exterior of our 3600 square foot house in three days, under budget and with tremendous quality. They were extraordinarily flexible getting this done for us - we were in the middle of a remodel when we first talked about the project and had no firm deadlines to get the house painted. When all of that changed and we needed to have the house painted within 10 days because of a wedding reception being held at the house - they made it happen! They had great suggestions on colors and where to use base color versus trim color. They were very careful with the new stained glass that had been created surrounding the front doors - not a spot of paint on any of the panels. And always with graciousness and smiles on their faces. This team is a true find and we will use them again, gladly!

Dan and his crew painted our 26 unit condo community. He worked directly with the HOA during the project and made several visits to perform any requested touch ups. They painted two buildings including patios, doors and the carports. Final cost came in very close to the original estimate (which was lower than many of the other bids I received). I would use Extraodinaire Painting again and refer colleagues and friends.

Jorge and his crew did a really nice job for a very reasonable price. They installed insulation, hung and taped drywall (with a smooth finish), painted the exterior and painted the interior of a garage-turned-studio / workshop. I am a bit of a 'perfectionist on a budget'... so probably the most annoying kind of customer to work with. And while I did have to make a few requests throughout the job that I thought were sort of obvious (like covering the garage doors in plastic because the black exterior paint was misting on them), they were always very accommodating and wanted me to be satisfied with the project. So just be very specific at the beginning about your expectations and tell Jorge if anything comes up that you're not satisfied with, and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the end result. One example... the floor was left with white drywall dust and mud splatters on the concrete (even though I had mentioned that it was our final flooring and not going to be covered up), and when I texted Jorge about it, his wife called me right away and they came over that evening to scrub it clean. They are really nice people to work with, and it's apparent that they care about their customers. I would work with them again on future projects.

Our new garage doors were painted by Jose. They look great. Also, Jose was very responsive in rescheduling because of rain. I appreciated his level of responsiveness to our project and to rescheduling at my request.

Leno and his associate did a great job on our interior painting project. We have high ceilings, which they handled with ease. Quality and timely work. We also had them spray paint our doors, as well as paint our trim and window sills (which required removing and re-installing all blinds - Leno was happy to do). He even came back at a later date to touch up a couple spots. All for a fair price. Will likely be using again and would definitely recommend them.

Robert Selander was an absolute pro. The rebuild of our back porch, a covered deck on a garage and downstairs entry turned out beautiful! He is on top of his communication, expectation, design and budget. If we need construction in the future he will be our guy to contact. I would refer him wholeheartedly.

Awesome work! Tyler was the technician and he was very informative and thorough. We bought an older house, and they did complete overhauls on both garage doors, one which had not been working for several years. They did not try to upsell to newer garage doors, and admitted the doors already there were in great shape! The new motors are so quiet, it's unbelievable. We did have an issue with one of them immediately after installation, but the next day they sent someone out and fixed the problem. They offer a lifetime warranty on parts and labor-- incredible! I won't look anywhere else for garage door needs!

Great Job. My house is a 3 bedroom about 1800 square feet and it is about 80 years old. I hired Kriss's company, Cipro to paint the house which I was putting up for sale in Tacoma. I was worried because I was falling behind on my schedule and I wanted the job done fast and within a certain time frame. Kriss and his assistant worked on my house and It was amazing. They painted the walls, repaired a broken hole in one of the bedrooms and did the trims. They did a great job and I would hire them again. I was impressed

Nick and his work crew did an amazing job painting and repairing my mother's home. He was very detailed from start to finish. Nick went not only did excellent work but he also built a good professional and trusting relationship with my mother (who has language barriers and hearing impairments). He valued what my mother wanted and even repaired her front door lock without me asking him. Nick kept us informed regularly and answered every questions promptly. I couldn't asked for a better outcome. I highly recommend Special Touch Painting and Construction and will not hesitate to hire Nick and his crew again.

Allan and his team worked quickly and efficiently to paint 28 interior doors and 3 closets for us. They worked hard to complete the job in only 2 days. They were more than willing to accommodate us for no VOC paint as well, and offered us a very reasonable price. We look forward to having them help us with future house projects. Thank you!

The best there is when you need a repair. He came out same day I put out the request for quotes. Was nicer than ever, professional as ever, fast, very clearly explained everything and did a few extra tweaks for us. The work was super clean. And my garage door opener has never worked so quiet. Thank you for the job you did for us!

I had hired a different contractor who started job and bailed. Brian at craftsman construction saved me! I had them convert garage space into a bonus room. They also did a lot of sheetrock and sheetrock repair plus the entire house finish work/trim and painted walls and all doors. They did an impressive job, I would highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.
