Jordan was very helpful, first he had a call with me and patiently reviewed all the issues making suggestions. I hired him for a couple of fixes in my home (door knob and sliding door adjustments). He was on time, did a pretty good job. Overall I am happy with his work and would recommend him.

Alex and his crew did a wonderful job deep cleaning my home today. When finished stove and fridge looked brand new and it was a great feeling to come home to a clean house. Even my husband noticed! We have a black dog and long haired cat so there was much to clean. The staff was courteous and very professional. I will use them again in the future.

I have been looking for someone to repair my roof for months. All of the large roofing companies refused the work if it didn't involve a full roof repair. Within an hour of connecting on Thumbtack, I was contacted by Brian at B&M construction via email. I called him that same day and had a conversation with him right away. He sent me a quote within a few hours. Twenty four hours later my roof was repaired. I was so excited to wake up after a major downpour and not find water all over my kitchen counters and floor. I will definitely be reaching out to Brian again when I have more repairs to be done.

Jason responded within minutes to the post on Thumbtack and his responses were just as quick after I selected him for the dishwasher installation. He had to come twice to my home because the first dishwasher has damage and needed to be exchanged at the store. We got the replacement the same day and Jason was quick to respond to a voicemail requesting him to come back the same day to finish the installation. He did not charge anything extra for the extra trip. Very satisfied with the speed and quality of the work.

Was searching around for a fair price for a garbage disposal replacement. His price was beyond competitive. Other well known places was quoting me $500+ and he got it done for $200 and picked up the garbage disposal for me. Got the job done in 20 minutes as well.highly recommend and came on short notice 10/10.

Daniel was very responsive coming out and bidding. Put me on his schedule with a firm date and time for completion. I needed to repair/replace the siding and he had someone come complete the job and still made the completion date. The only ding against his workers I had was they broke some rhodies and hydrangea and did not tell me. One of the hose hangers was damaged and needed to be put back on properly. Bid was neither the highest I got or the lowest, but the reputation is good. Comes on time and completes on time for reasonable price.

I live in Alaska and hired FG Landscaping long-distance to clear a vacant, overgrown building lot so a gopher survey could be conducted. Not living in the area I relied heavily on what reviews others that had posted on Thumbtack using companies in the area. Fernando gave me an estimate within a day or so, but I waited for others to give me an estimate to compare before I hired anyone. After getting estimates FG was the most reasonable. I hired Fernando to do the job and the results speak for themselves. The work was done quickly and the lot looks perfect! He sent photos via text of before and after the work was done. My elderly mom lives close by and she met the crew and watched them work. She was so impressed with how they were courteous and hard-working they were she asked them to do some much needed tidying up by her house, which they did...also for a reasonable price. She said I struck gold when I found them! I will definitely use them in the future and highly recommended their services.

Helped me fix a problem with my microwave oven, which (suddenly) began to fall off the wall, and was in danger of crashing down on my stove. Came over on a Sunday morning, removed microwave oven from my wall, told me what replacement parts I needed to buy from Sears (it was a Kenmore microwave), came back when the parts arrived, re-built my supporting kitchen cabinet(s) and re-hung the microwave on the wall. A big help to me.

Enrique is a "Jack of all Trades". He was contracted to paint the exterior of the house. Before all work had been completed he had also re-roofed the flat roof of the house addition, replaced the water tank, repaired loose hanging gutters and did some minor drywall repair. Too, he noticed some incidental items that needed addressing. He corrected these at no additional charge. He was prompt and completed all work in an agreed upon time frame. I highly recommend him.

Professional, friendly, and affordable are the reasons why I’d recommend Good Guy Windows. Earlier this year they replaced a few windows in my home. Their courteous neighborly consultation was such a sharp contrast to their competitors (those ‘big guy’ window companies that cost at least two or three times more!) that it was an obvious and easy decision to choose Good Guy Windows. More recently they replaced ALL remaining windows in my home in less than 2 days. Through the entire process they were prompt, responsive, and friendly. Trusting Good Guy Windows with my home window replacement project was one of the best home improvement decisions I’ve made.

David and his crew were just great! They took care of all our power washing needs. Our building looks really nice once more. One thing I thought was wonderful is they rescreened some of the window screens that were damaged and replaced damaged flowers!!! Will use them again! David is super thoughtful and very respectful. My husband and I couldn't have imagined how wonderful the job TJ and Marvin did for us!! We hired them to - pretty much gut our backyard and deck - remodeling everything for us. They treated or job as if it was their own home. It was so much more than what we hoped for. I would - in a heartbeat - recommend them to anyone. The beautiful work they did for us will be enjoyed for years to come. They leveled our backyard, planted new sod, installed all new fencing, built patio with a fire pit. They tore down and built a new, enlarged deck that wraps around the side of our house. They took out our bedroom window and installed sliding doors to the new deck which looks out onto a beautiful wetland. They installed a new ceiling fan. When we moved into our house 5 years ago, our furnace was in one of our bathrooms. Due to the design of the bathroom, there was no way to cover the opening to the furnace - leaving it an eye sore. They took our the door to the bathroom and installed a smaller door - leaving them room to install a beautiful - barn door style door - closing the opening to the furnace. In the future, any remodeling to our home will be easy, all we'll do is call TJ and Marvin!! If I could, I'd give them 6 plus stars!!

Will completed these projects for my parents house: new roof, kitchen and bathroom remodel, replaced the old windows, exterior paint, along with helping get in contacts with good plumbers and electricians. Overall, Will did a good job on finishing the work as contracted. The only issue I had was his project manager was a good salesperson but when it came to executing he was difficult to work with. However, Will came in after I complained and help get the project back in the right direction which is meeting the expectation I was sold on. The crew did an ok job cleaning up but there were a lot of small debris I had to vacuum/sweep after the work was done.

This was one of the best companies I have ever worked with, they are a great family owned business that takes pride in the work they do. We had a bad seal in one of the windows and one wouldn't even open they came out and gave me a bid on glass and WOW even fixed the window that wouldn't open for no charge. We okay them to do the work, they ordered the glass and the boys were here on Friday morning to replace it. What a great job guys. Yes, I would use them again. Thanks for the great service.

Jose responded to my posting quickly, came out to provide an estimate the next day, and did the job as soon as the insurance company provided the estimate. They replaced a couple of posts in my garage that were damaged by a pizza delivery driver. This seemingly minor job involved everything from bracing a major beam that runs across the front of my house to some painting and minor finish work. The work was solid and as promised. They did the job while I was at work, and when I came home, the garage was swept out and they also had swept my driveway. In every stage of the job, they were professional and courteous. I would have them do more work in a heartbeat. Thank you very much!!!

There were some initial communication problems with the Project Coordinator, but his replacement was very pro-active and soon got things back on track. The installation team was very professional and efficient. Installed 5 windows very quickly (about 2 hrs) and scarcely left a trace. Very pleased with the installation and product!

Paul and his team was able to fix the corner-structure on my home caused by a truck impact, which is a huge relief. The front of the house now has natural stone fascia and sills adding more curb appeal and nosey slow drivers (opposite of normal). The inside of the damaged room needed flooring replaced and drywall repaired/replaced along with external vinyl siding salvage and transfer. The project really came together and looks great. The stone work and repairs Paul's team did is very appreciated and I recommend with high confidence for future projects. Thanks Paul & Co I look forward to the future projects with Pro-Custom Contracting when timing is right. Thanks again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
