David has taught my children, ages 13 and 16, piano for 3 years. Both of them started piano before they were 5 years old, but they are very different. My older son really enjoys classical and has recently been exploring jazz. My younger daughter is more of a dabbler. David has successfully kept their interest and enthusiasm for piano, and for music as a whole. For my son, he has focused a lot on technique and music theory. For my daughter, he has made lessons fun while still making sure that she learns the fundamentals that she doesn’t enjoy as much (like scales). He was flexible enough to teach her the basics of guitar when she expressed an interest. Both children have blossomed under David’s tutelage. Perhaps more importantly, both continue lessons because they want to continue – rather than parental pressure. David’s personable and gentle teaching style makes him an easy person for kids and adults to learn from; he is an excellent teacher!

David is an excellent piano teacher. He is patient and encouraging. He balances mechanics with theory, sight-reading with improvisation. He listens closely and offers insightful help. He helped me progress from an adult re-beginner to an intermediate player where I can now fully enjoy playing. Thank you, David!

David understands teaching piano is about relationship as well as learning. He prioritizes his relationship with the student which has supported my daughters to show up as exactly who they are and experience who they are through the act of playing piano.

Excellent teacher! Knowledgeable, personable, and patient. My 5 year old son and I have both been taking lessons with David for over one year now. We are very happy and would highly recommend him to anyone interested in learning to play piano.

David is awesome. Clearly a talented musician in his own right, he is also an intuitive instructor. He is a quick communicator. I could not be more please.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Piano lessons no matter what age the student is a powerful vehicle that accelerate development in so many powerful ways. Successful lessons are fun, challenging, and offer lasting rewards. It can be a life changing decision to begin lessons if you have the right instructor to guide you. The first step, pondering your options, is when it is important to know a little about what you want to accomplish. A child naturally discovers things they like along the way and with the right guidance and training will have the tools they need to feel confident and ready to pursue anything they chose. The adult student knows a bit more at first of what they want to do at the piano, but the picture can lack detail and roadblocks can appear almost immediately without a good guide. The right instructor can help bring things into focus and remove those obstacles if they possess the ability to track the student's development and customize their approach for each student. The basics: know if your potential teacher uses method-books as tools or simply uses them to teach. Some teachers exclusively teach off method books and only have one style of teaching of which they were taught. This limits their ability to truly reach the student and offer them what they need, and for many this is the style of teaching that made them stop studying piano altogether. Aside from the credentials, schedule, location, and all the basic items to check off, it is imperative that you meet in person and feel out the style and personality of an instructor before you decide they are the right one for you. You must enjoy the company of your instructor. People don't learn from people they don't like, no matter what the age, and adults grow faster, learn more and study longer with a teacher who can relate to them and work with them as an individual. Perhaps you are a professional, or plan to be professional, or perhaps you are reclaiming your musical past that you experienced as a child or young adult; or maybe your child is beginning the journey of development through the study of piano for your first time. Finding the right instructor for you will yield many years of development at the instrument.
