I hired Ashely Movers for packing and moving service on a weekday. The 3 movers who completed the job arrived on time and were excellent. They worked non-stop quickly and were pleasant to deal with. Good attention to detail in protecting the carpeted stairs, hardwood floors, and doorways. I'd be happy to recommend them.

We decide to hire a professional moving company this year because of the distance (moving from North Seattle to Mercer Island) and having a baby who just started to crawl and getting into everything. Packing and moving ourselves as we did in the past didn't seem like such a great idea this time around. After posting what we needed on Thumbtack, Corey was the very first person to reply with a request to come over and evaluate our place to give us a quote for packing and moving. I started getting responses from other service providers shortly after that. After comparing reviews between Corey's Hardcore Home Improvement & Services and others, I quickly saw Corey had the best reviews. After this quick bit of comparing, we decided to go with Corey because of his impressive track record. Throughout the entire process, from visiting us to provide a quote, to packing, and then moving Corey and his team were professional, punctual, and accommodating. Corey and his team made it a point to make sure furniture, valuables, and even random items weren't damaged in any way. What was really impressive was the speed they were able to move in while making sure everything was protected from damage for the move. Packing our three bedroom townhouse took half a day, just like Corey promised. The next day the move itself, including unloading took about 4 hours, just like Corey promised. Everything went smooth and we couldn't be happier with Corey and his team. If you are looking for moving, packing services please hire Hardcore Home Improvement & Services. I wouldn't be surprised if Corey's professionalism and customer service in the moving/packing category carries over to his other services as well.

I have used A2B Moving twice now, and both times was very pleased with the service I was given. The guys were quick, handled my property professionally, and were flexible/personable/even offered suggestions or ways to be more efficient on day-of the move. I moved to Portland the second time so they went a little out of range, and still were much easier to work out the logistics with than other moving companies I compared to or have used in the past. Would defintely use again.

I was in a bind because the moving company I was using called me at the last moment and told me they could not move my piano. I called integrity movers and they were able to accommodate at a moments notice. They were timely professional and no additional or hidden costs. Very grateful. Thank you!

Move2Gether sent two guys and a 16-foot truck to handle my two-bedroom apartment. We moved from Renton to Redmond in the rain. I had: -20 totes, -50-inch TV, -TV stand, -Dining table, -Leather sofa, -Leather recliner, -A large cat stand, -Five chairs, -Two monitors -And other various knick-knacks. The guys arrived promptly at 9:30 as agreed, and were finished by 3 PM, having done all of the work themselves. Moving into the new apartment was a bit of a bear because the apartment was a complex sitting on the side of a sloped hill, with little space for a moving truck. I was impressed with the care they took with my belongings, their organization of the move, and their professionalism. During a move day you're just kind of waiting for something to go wrong, and nothing did. Move2Gether also came in at $30-$50 an hour under their competition on Thumbtack.

These guys are the best. Everything went very smoothly. They arrived ahead of schedule and started right in. They are extremely quick and efficient. Everything arrived at the destination without a scratch and they put everything exactly where we needed it. If the need ever arises, hopefully it doesn't, I would use these guys in a second. I highly recommend them. There's a lot of moving companies out there and I'm very glad we went with Moving Clique.

Moving can be one of the most stressful experiences one can experience. (Try packing, moving and combining 2, 4 bedroom households) If you want to feel relieved and actually happy about moving do yourselves the biggest service and hire them! The price is well worth the value; you get so much for your hard earned money. Jemel, Momo, and John are hard working, dedicated, and beyond friendly. They take pride in their work and it shows! I kept joking they took better care of our things during the move than we did. They offer full service! You need to move delicates, antiques, electronics or just items with sentimental value you can trust them to handle with care. They help with packing, dismantling or setting up your things. They are also quick and efficient using their time and expertise to maximize their service. They take great direction and check in with you when needed. They give good advice when needed and communicate as they work to ensure everyone is on the same page. I'd almost move again to hire them. It was such an easy move that I wondered why I'd never done this before. Happy movers happy customers. Would highly recommend!

I didn’t go with the moving company that had a ton of reviews, I went with these guys and I’m so glad I did. I felt like friends who cared about me and my belongings were moving me. Courteous, professional, seasoned, skilled— they maneuvered some expensive items for me and based on the way they listened and responded to my concerns up front, I trusted them. I was impressed with how quickly they worked. They did a fantastic job and I will totally hire them again, and recommend them to my loved ones. 100% fantastic experience.

My movers just left and requested a review as quickly as possible. I assured them that I would provide then with a 10 out of 5 star rating. Most importantly, the young men were respectful to my husband and I. I am 67 years old so I was on the young men from start to finish - making sure they were respectful of my belongings and home. They wrapped all of my furniture and assisting with packing items that were not packed upon their arrival. I did notice a small hole in the wall at the pick up address. Tight corners so I did not complain. But I did want them to know that I noticed. Other than that, my belongings arrived in great shape. I will recommend to my friend Margaret who will be moving in about 2 weeks. I informed her to request Mark and Stephen. Thanks again for your hard work. Spend your tip wisely.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
