Jarrod worked on adjusting the loose hinge in our bathroom glass door and he installed a new glass panel for another bathroom. His work was pretty solid. Jarrod was very good and thorough in his follow-ups from the beginning to the end. He kept his time and his estimates were very close to the final amount. I would strongly recommend him. (In fact I have already given his contact to my friend who wanted some help.)

I was in need of getting my house with Vinyl siding painted. I came across Dan on thumbtack and we set up an appointment for a estimate. Dan was on time and gave some great insight on the type of paint I would need to complete project. Within a couple days I received an detailed estimate of the work that would be done. We picked a general time for the project that would allow for great weather. Dan showed up when he said he would and completed the project. My house looks wonderful and he even offered to come back and fix a minor issue if it didn't get resolved. Dan was great to work with and I would recommend him and his team to anyone looking for a drama free experience. Dan also offers a 5 year warranty which allowed ease to my mind.

I had a pressure washing project for my house, it was yellow vinyl but practically green from moss and algae. John Madden had the best price for all the bids offered and his worker, Sonny, was phenomenal. He did a wonderful job getting the green off my house and he worked hard all day. My vinyl now looks as good as new! The only hiccup in the plan was the original pressure washer that Sonny brought didn't work so they had to rent one for the day.

I contacted Yuriy to finish painting some trim on my house as I wasn't finding he time to do it. Yuriy was responsive to my communications, timely in completing the job and was affordable. I appreciated the attention to detail and thoroughness he gave to the job, he even touched up areas he saw on the siding of the house while he was working. I have already reached to Yuriy to reinstall a couple windows and replace the old trim around them as well, knowing he will do the job right and make sure it it meets my expectations.

When they finished my industrial bannisters they were exactly what I had imagined. I had 3 bids, they were the best but they also gave me about 60 colors to choose from for the metal and the other Companies only gave me about 6 and said they could not do any other colors. I will try to get photos put up, I am waiting for the handrail going down my second stairs.

LNB Construction installed a new shower stall in my basement bathroom. I received my proposal on the evening that I met with Jose and his business partner, Jose. They were able to get a crew out right away to replace my leaking shower stall. The job turned out great. I had a complicated situation due to a very un-level floor. There was some rot in the wall behind the existing shower and the drain also had to be moved. I thought Jose was fair on the change order for the unforeseen work. Due to the different shape of the shower, there was some of the concrete floor that showed. They took some vinyl flooring from under the dryer and patched the area in front of the shower. I am very happy with the way the whole project turned out. They were very neat and clean. Floors were all covered and protected with heavy paper. They also worked around the needs of my tenants who work nights and need to sleep in. I have them providing a quote for some other work I need done.

I had a home built in ’56 with a large 9’ x 5.5’ front window that needed replacing. I attempted to get quotes from a couple of long established window companies and either got the runaround, or didn’t get a call back with a quote. In a Google search, I found R & L Windows. Randy answered my call on my first attempt, he met me that evening after work to provide me a bid, and two week later installed the window. R & L’s serves was outstanding, his employees were courteous and fast at the installation. I’ve had many windows installed in my houses over the years, I can’t say enough good things about the work and I couldn’t be happier with the final product.

There were some initial communication problems with the Project Coordinator, but his replacement was very pro-active and soon got things back on track. The installation team was very professional and efficient. Installed 5 windows very quickly (about 2 hrs) and scarcely left a trace. Very pleased with the installation and product!

Josh arrived on time, was well-groomed, had a great disposition, and got right to work. He carefully prepped the area and was very deft at putting the new window in. It was obvious that he knew what he was doing. He cleaned up the area well, making sure to vacuum away the tiny bits of shattered glass left over and polishing the lovely new window. I would hire him again in an instant!

Paul and his team was able to fix the corner-structure on my home caused by a truck impact, which is a huge relief. The front of the house now has natural stone fascia and sills adding more curb appeal and nosey slow drivers (opposite of normal). The inside of the damaged room needed flooring replaced and drywall repaired/replaced along with external vinyl siding salvage and transfer. The project really came together and looks great. The stone work and repairs Paul's team did is very appreciated and I recommend with high confidence for future projects. Thanks Paul & Co I look forward to the future projects with Pro-Custom Contracting when timing is right. Thanks again!

Ken and the guys from Clear Choice were fantastic. They redid windows in our entire house and they were fast, professional, and did a great job. We were worried because our basement windows had their frames rotten away, but the guys did a great job rebuilding he frame and didn't charge anything extra. I would highly recommend working with them if you are considering installing windows. They are very friendly and easy to work with. They were very clear and thorough with questions and got the job done quickly. We would hire them again for sure

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
