FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attend classes a couple of times a year hosted by major product or color lines. I love to watch other artists work as well. Everyone has their own techniques and tricks...there is so much to learn all the time to always keep growing in my craft.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been in this line of work since I was nine!! Haha! My poor barbies! I finally got to cut real people's hair starting in the 7th grade and just kept going. I snuck makeup out of the house everyday at age ten and would sit and practice doing my face when I was bored all through my teenage years...always studying Vogue and Marie Claire for inspiration during the era of supermodels. I always loved hair, makeup, and fashion. Finally after years of not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, my sister (who strangers were always asking "who does your hair?) suggested I go to cosmetology school. The rest is history!
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
This is not a job necessarily but an accomplishment. I was invited to Minneapolis this past spring to be a semi finalist in a prestigious hair color competition. I stretched myself as an artist and really got to see where I was in the spectrum of my field. I have terrible stage fright to the point of anxiety and being in front of an audience and panel of judges was super scary for me, but I was so very proud of the work I did with my model and how far I have come with my talent. It was a huge learning experience.
