Introduction: I am only teaching remotely at this time, but still offer a high quality lesson from the comfort of your own home! I’ve invested time and money into technology to offer the best experience possible and will walk you through setting up free software to bring our music-making much closer than our distance. I can also offer advice on recording software and equipment to enhance your at-home studio.
I am a passionate and caring teacher and musician. I take pride in creating a safe, engaging environment for students to be creative and grow. I have been teaching music for over 15 years, both as a private studio and classroom teacher and am excited to build up a thriving studio in West Seattle. I am jovial but passionate about progress, meaning I will win you or your child over with laughter while striving to make the most of every lesson. I hold a bachelor's degree in Music Education and a master's degree in Conducting and remain a sought-after tenor for professional choral and solo work.
I teach beginning piano using my own method, relying on aural skills and note groupings to progress quickly, including elements of creation (improvisation and composing) from the very first lesson. For intermediate students, I adapt to start from where you are and the prior method you are comfortable with and move in a direction that's best for you. Truly, no two lessons are alike.
Every voice lesson will have elements of musicianship (from learning to read music and understand expressive markings to sight-singing) and focus heavily on classical technique of breath support and removing tension that translates to musical theater and other popular genres. Though I'm classically trained, I grew up with a strong love of musical theater and while I have seen the benefits of classical training, you'll never need to pressure me to break out the showtunes!
