My daughter, a high school senior, has been working with her outstanding LOM Tutor weekly since October when she started feeling overwhelmed by the higher-level concepts in her challenging Precalculus course. Several months later, she has earned an "A" for 1st semester! Last year, she struggled to make a "B-" in Algebra II, so her rising grade is quite an improvement. More importantly, her confidence and understanding of complex higher-level math concepts have also vastly improved. Although she has an excellent math teacher at the alternative high school program she attends, meeting with her weekly tutor has been invaluable because her tutor explains difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand manner in a nonthreatening environment of digital learning where my math-anxious perfectionist daughter does not feel intimidated. She has told me many times that having a private tutor has been the single most helpful thing she has ever experienced in her entire academic math career! I am very thankful for LOM for making exceptionally high-quality private tutoring affordable. As a parent with over 10 years of homeschooling experience, I am very satisfied with LOM products and programs, and I am looking forward to continuing to use LOM services and products with my son, who is now an 8th-grader. I discovered LOM tutoring because my son is using a LOM Pre-Algebra video course. I was going to sign up my daughter with a local private math tutor, but the cost was prohibitive; also, we live in a rural area, and we would have had to drive 45 minutes to find a tutor who was qualified to teach Precalculus. Digital learning is within our budget and much more convenient, since the tutor literally comes to my daughter for live interactive sessions via our computer. Although the tutoring sessions are not recorded for future review, this has not been a problem since my daughter takes notes and the tutor sends a written summary of each session to us immediately after each session. I researched extensively before choosing LOM tutoring services, and I do not believe there is a better option in this price range. Many of the other online tutoring services were impersonal, used a different tutor each week, and/or used international tutors (who are speaking English as a second-language and may not be familiar with math as it is taught in the United States, which I think should be avoided below the college level). Signing up for tutoring services was fast and very easy. I emailed LOM and the owner of the company (!) responded within a few minutes and offered my daughter a free sample tutoring session immediately; this was such a relief for my daughter, who had literally been crying in her room for an hour for fear that she was going to get a bad grade in math and, "...ruin my chances for getting into my favorite colleges." She loved the trial session, so we then set up regular weekly sessions with her own private tutor. Although they usually meet at the same day and time each week, the tutor has been flexible and encouraged my daughter to change the weekly session so it coordinates with her in-class tests. We cannot say enough about her phenomenal tutor! Oh, and by the way, my daughter was accepted at her first choice college, Willamette University, and at all the other private liberal arts colleges to which she applied early decision (Lewis and Clark, Linfield, and Pacific Lutheran University--she is waiting to hear from Whitman and University of Puget Sound). I could not more highly recommend the LOM tutoring service.

Live Online Math did a very, very good job tutoring me for the Quantitative section of the GRE. I believe it was their first time preparing someone for the GRE as I gather they mostly do homeschooling for kids and teenagers. However, they were able to adapt quickly and identify what I needed and they assigned me a teacher who was able to help me at least understand most of the problems and definitely was able to help me re-learn what was essential to do the best I could on the test. I found that they were better able to help me than some so-called "tutors" who said they had been tutoring for the GRE for years and charged ridiculous prices. I would think that they will investigate further the types of problems to expect on the GRE and will improve their service accordingly, which as I said is already very good, and is certainly a very reasonable and affordable price.

My daughter excelled in a year-long Geometry class with Live Online Math getting more out of it than any previous math class. The teacher was uniformly calm and encouraging, had high expectations of the students and got their best work from them. The class had clear learning objectives, all covered by the end of the course. The next year she studied Algebra II with a LOM tutor, again excellent. A great teacher, always on schedule, couldn't be more convenient or effective for studying and learning math. And did I mention very affordable compared to tutors that come to the home in person? We'll be sure to return for more tutoring when dd gets to her next challenging math class.

Our Granddaughter has been working with Jo for about three years now. She had difficulty staying up with her classmates and Jo has made an indrecible difference in helping our Granddaughter understand her school work. She creates a positive learning environent that keeps our Granddaughter focused and engaged. Her grades have improved and she now enjoys reading just for fun. We originally tried a national chain of "learning centers." Save your money and call Jo. We could not be happier with our results, and I think you will too.

About

I tutor math, writing, reading, and physics for all grade levels. As a student of many various tutors, I know what works effectively and how to keep pushing students to improve while keeping an interactive and (legitimately) interesting environment. I received a 770 in the math section of my SAT (2,200 total), missing only one question in any math section. I know what has worked for many different people and how to explain many different subjects in a much simpler way than other teachers or tutors they have encountered. As soon as the student learns and truly understands the concepts with me, the grades will follow! Let's get started on learning!

About

I retired in 2012 after 32 years in public education as a special education teacher working with students with deafness/hearing impairments, learning disabilities, cognitive delays and multiple disabilities. I also spent several years tutoring at-home students due to medical conditions or high risk for failure. In addition, I have taught general education English to high school students which included mechanics, grammar, spelling, creative writing and literature. I am now looking for a part-time work because I miss working with kids and their minds; assisting them through their challenges and helping them realize their potential.
