I have been studying Spanish for about a year now and trying to reach my goal of fluency. I took private sessions with Nikki for a few months and she was a great teacher. She designed the sessions specifically for my needs and feel like I acquired an excellent base from her. I am enrolled in Spanish classes at a university right now and my sessions with Nikki have put me ahead of the learning curve. I plan to work with Nikki again in the near future, and would definitely recommend her to anyone that is just starting out, it is well worth it.

Tammy is completely amazing. Not only did she make learning Spanish fun, but she took me on fun field trips throughout Latino neighborhoods and kindly forced me to use my skills. My confidence grew greatly, and now people notice how far my skills have come. Tammy is wonderful and I highly recommend her.

My daughter, 12, takes voice lessons. I noticed the marked improvement after only 3 lessons; her voice really began to capture my attention for fullness, volume, and quality. I believe lessons helped her to get a solo singing part in A Christmas Carol and her voice stood out remarkably even when the other singers joined in.

The key to education is to love what you do and I love what I do. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing students' progress. As I teach with love and I create a fun environment for students (using games to practice the language), students become involved and interested in the classroom. I have also tutored one-on-one and I prepare a lot of different activities for the class and exercises for the student to be able to practice the language when I'm not there. I encourage watching TV news programs to practice listening comprehension and the use of flash cards in order for the student to memorize some short phrases. I have been teaching Theology for 30 years. I studied at the Opus Dei and at the Argentine Catholic University

About

My name is Tabitha (K) Flatt hence, TK Fotography. I've been taking pictures as a hobby for the past 10 years and have recently begun to market my skills. I am married and have three wonderful stepchildren, one large dog, and four cats. I teach Spanish to students ages 5 to 13 at a local district. I love taking pictures -- the candid and capturing that moment. I am happy with my work when you are happy with my work! I recently had a client (a bride whose gift from her uncle was my service) say, "You are very talented. I'm not sure what he paid, but it is the best wedding gift, and I will definitely refer you. Not to brag, but I have to say, based on one of the pictures you put up today, I was very beautiful!" That was the best thing I could have heard from a bride who was pleased at what I captured on her special day. I am a detail person -- the little things are important. Take a look at my work if you haven't already, and you will see what I am talking about! Feel free to contact me for any further questions via my contact page, email, or phone! I photograph weddings, events, seniors, families, and children.

About

Hola! I am a college graduate from Marquette University (May of 2014). My undergraduate majors are Spanish language, literature and culture and international affairs. Spanish has been my passion ever since the 7th grade and continues currently. While in college, I lived for 8 months in El Salvador, Central America, studying at La Universidad Dr. Jose Mateas Delgado, where I became completely fluent. I graduated Marquette an active member of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honors Society Marquette University chapter for having received a 3.8 GPA in all of my Spanish classes during my time at Marquette University. Also, during my undergraduate studies, I worked for over a year with native Spanish speakers through The Boys and Girls Club of America to help them learn English (ESL). I have also worked with high school students in all levels of Spanish; I am able to explain grammar concepts using current, spoken examples. I am confident I can help students of all Spanish language levels, from Spanish 1 to Spanish 5 AP, college-level students and those who are seeking medical Spanish tutoring. Additionally, because of my major in international affairs, I am well versed in the political atmosphere of the Spanish speaking world. I help my students to my fullest ability, always creating a relaxed and easygoing experience. It also never hurts to add some fun and humor into my teaching style! I specialize in high school Spanish test preparation and vocabulary memorization. I also incorporate the use of mnemonic devices into my teaching to help my students remember their vocabulary easier. Flexible schedule and weekends work very well for me.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
