Introduction: Trained from an early age by my choir director grandmother, I grew up touring internationally as a frequent soloist with the Seattle Children's Chorus. When I began my studies at Berklee College of Music, however, I wanted to expand my techniques and repertoire beyond the classical realm. I focused on developing rock, pop, and contemporary vocal styles while also diving into Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and South Asian traditions. I began writing original music and formed a 6-piece band, with whom I recorded a full-length album and an award-winning EP, and performed across the country. I graduated from Berklee in 2011 with a BM in Professional Music & Voice. My love for music and cultures around the world carried me into graduate school at UT Austin, where I combined performance studies with academic research, taught undergraduate music courses, served as vocal coach for the Bereket Middle Eastern Ensemble, and earned an MM in Ethnomusicology. As a member of Pakistani/American fusion ensemble Sangat!, I traveled twice to perform at some of Pakistan’s most prestigious venues as well as for SXSW in Austin. In addition to private voice lessons, I also teach as a multi-instrument instructor with Mother Falcon Music Lab and Girls Rock! summer camps, and as a professional development facilitator of music-based teaching strategies for AISD's Creative Learning Initiative. I love working with students of all ages who are interested in establishing foundational vocal techniques, or advanced singers who are looking to expand their stylistic and technical range. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to create music, and that even those who don't think they have a "good voice" or "natural talent" can become confident by developing healthy and fun vocal practices!

Laura was wonderful! I have recently started getting into community song circles and am hooked! Singing with other people lifts my vibration and makes me feel connected. I have never studied singing and have no voice training. In fact, I was the kid who was constantly shushed while belting out my favorite songs on a car ride with the family. Now that I'm 40 I want to reclaim my voice and have confidence and FUN while singing. I had a one hour lesson with Laura. She made me feel comfortable right away. Laura met me exactly where I was and gently helped to stretch my comfort zone. She gave straightforward answers to my many questions and was extremely encouraging as I vulnerably explored my vocal range. I left the lesson with helpful exercises that I can do on my own. I highly recommend Laura for voice lessons! Enjoy!

Laura has a genuinely sweet, gentle, and enthusiastic nature that makes her so easy to communicate with. Even though I'm a complete beginner, she made me feel completely at ease, meaning I was able to learn so much from her. I love how she helped me get into a good mental place, encouraging me to be enthusiastic and give it my all, and also to sing with my own voice rather than trying to copy someone else. What she taught me resulted in better, more comfortable and healthy singing...and it's also a great approach to life. All in all, Laura is amazing and has a strong educational and musical background, and I am confident that she can help anyone from a complete novice like myself to those with much bigger ambitions.

I had an introductory voice lesson with Laura last week, and it left me more excited than ever to delve deeper into understanding my voice and body as an instrument. Even after one hour, I felt like I was given foundational building blocks to a maintaining a healthy voice and vocal practice that I will use always. I am a performing musician, singing in two Austin bands, and I am a preschool teacher, so I use my voice a lot. Like, really really a lot. I sought out vocal lessons as a way to protect myself from injuring this expressive outlet I rely on, and to feel more comfortable and confident in my vocal performances. I understand a lot about my voice but I had never had lessons, and I could tell from the strain I was left with after shows or a busy week at work that I was at an impasse. Laura was recommended to me by a friend, and we set up our lesson the following week. My first vocal lesson ever! Laura was so warm and supportive. I was nervous but she was very reassuring. I felt comfortable working with her and found that she communicated complicated or specific ideas in a way that was accessible and immediately applicable to posture, breathing, and vocalization. I left feeling thrilled that I had found her and really excited to have her as a guide to pushing the boundaries of my vocal expression. I am so happy we made that connection. I've been singing all week, practicing what she gave me, and cannot wait for my next lesson.
