what I normally do is a free diagnostic check. Then I inform my customer what the problem is and what it will take to fix the problem. That way the customer knows the price before I do the job. Then they can decide if they want me to go ahead and do the job or not.

I normally setup a day and time that will work for my customer. I then travel out to their site or home and do a free diagnostic check.
