Introduction: Cellist Francisco Lopez Malespin, a native of Brazil began his musical career at age 18 at CEFAR, school who’s curriculum is inspired by the internationally recognized “El Sistema” program. This early training has instilled a lifelong dedication to enriching his understanding of cello performance and the highest standard of musicianship. Mr Malespin was the first recipient of the prestigious Rita Simo Scholarship covering all costs of his studies in Chicago. While in the U.S. he has taught at music schools such as The People’s Music School, DePaul University Community Music Division, besides several private students. His teaching philosophy is based on the individuality of each student and the belief that there are several approaches possible when it comes to learning an instrument and good teacher should be able to identify the best tool for each player instead of molding all students into one methodology.

Our daughter Salem has been Francisco's pupil for almost two years. Francisco is a gifted, caring, energetic and gracious teacher, who combines the skills of a highly accomplished musician with a knack for passing down these skills so effortlessly and naturally to his pupils. He is truly a gem and brings out the best from his students by his genuine care, nurture and pursuit of excellence. My daughter's transformation since she started taking lessons from him is truly amazing. She is much more motivated, passionate, confident, to say nothing about skilled, as a result of his goal oriented, excellence driven teaching method. Makda W.

When I decided that I wanted to learn the cello I did my research and knew that Francisco would bring a worldly approach to the study of the instrument. Not only is he an excellent teacher, his ear is impeccable; which not all teachers posses. His rhythm and musicality are both spot on. Francisco is also patient and has an obvious love for the music. He makes learning the cello an enjoyable experience.

Francisco is a great instructor and plays cello very beautifully. I have had lessons with other cello instructors and it's a lot more laid back and easy-going with Francisco.. which tends to keep you comfortable and actually engages you to progress forward faster. The pace is good and challenging, and his insight into both technique and repertoire history adds a lot to the whole lesson experience. I look forward to continuing my cello lessons with Francisco for the foreseeable future. :)
