Introduction: As a drummer and percussionist of 15 years, I have had a lot of time to experiment in my own practice with a variety of learning methods. My experience with classical percussion gives me a unique perspective on drum set performance and education. No one approach will work for everyone, but with a range of options, we're sure to find something that will work for you. The best part of teaching for me is experiencing the moment when something clicks with a student. Seeing the joy and excitement that comes from learning is deeply rewarding. With hard work and open communication, this can happen pretty frequently.

I already studied drum with Stephen more than 4 months. He is so nice, patient and he has really good experience in teaching. Especially, I come from China, I have some language problem. He still can find the different ways to teach me. Let me know how to learn drum. Also he is a really good drum player. I watched his performance once. Is amazing.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began teaching as a graduate assistant in the percussion program at Bowling Green State University, where I gave private lessons to undergraduates and coached percussion ensembles. I starting giving lessons to high school students during that time, and have since had students of all ages.
