- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I'll usually ask if you have a series of items needed for my lessons. This includes: - the violin, bow, and case - rosin - a music stand - a shoulder rest or sponge - a folder or binder to keep materials - a tuner or phone with tuning app When we have our first lesson I will determine where you are in the learning process and create a lesson plan based on what will help you the best. I will provide you with specific pieces, exercises, tips, and explanations for musical concepts. All of which are detailed and organized for your convenience.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Honestly, I grew up immersed in music. I was always in orchestras and different kinds of bands. However, I went to college to study environmental science and sociology because I also have a passion for the sciences. I didn't want to turn music into work because it was important to me that it stay something I could always turn to when life got overwhelming. But then I got my first student and realized how much I enjoy helping people learn how to develop a skill that helps them express themselves. I'm not in the National Philharmonic by any means, but I'm probably a better problem solver than most of the people in it. I'm methodical thanks to my scientific background and good with people. I tend to give out tons of informational packets and am a fan of "life hacks". You know that one kid in math class who raised their hand and said "when will we ever use this later in life?" You will never have that kind of moment with me.
