Introduction: I never meant to get into dance instruction. Instead, people started coming to me and asking about group classes and private lessons because they enjoyed watching how I dance. "I like how you dance. Can you teach me?" "That was such a great move! How did you do that?" And the next thing I knew, I was a dance instructor. My background also includes instruction in martial arts (I hold a black belt in Isshinryu Karate) as well as coaching chess for elementary-level students. Additionally, I graduated with a degree in Professional Writing and Secondary Education, so I am able to tutor a wide variety of English-related subjects. I like being able to connect with my students and watch their learning process and developments. The "aha" moments are wonderful to witness. My favorite, though, is seeing a person who starts with little to no confidence and very poor posture turn into somebody who is a poised person both on and off the dance floor.

Katie is an exceptional instructor. She is able teach to so many different skill levels very successfully. Her approach is both serious and lighthearted. You always laugh in her class all while learning so much.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
Most of my teaching-related work/experience is the result of people approaching me and asking me to teach/coach for them. They like watching me and how I perform/work, and it turns into people asking me to work with them. I've been very lucky in that regard.
