FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My students have usually paid me after each individual lesson that I teach. I am flexible with payment structure and timing. You can pay ahead, or after a set of lessons, if you wish. I am _not_ metered by-the-minute. The payment structure (rates) are simply for practical logistical purposes -- are mere guidelines. I am flexible.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will discuss with you what you would like to learn (or what you want your child to learn) -- the inteded goals of the lessons. I want to know what your (musical) goals are -- what kind of music you enjoy and want to learn how to play. I also want to know what you have learned so far, musically - and what you are currently capable of. What are your strengths and weaknesses? I will play a few things on the piano keyboard (little bits) and see if you are inspired to learn them. I can walk you through a few things. That process can be rewarding and fun.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.M. in Music and Technology from Radford University. I have been playing keyboards for over 20 years. I have experience teaching groups, as well as providing one-on-one tech support. I have been teaching an online student keyboard harmony, recently. As a music student, I have played music by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin as part of formal piano studies. I have also figured out popular and Jazz-influenced (Impressionistic Pop-) Rock music on my own, by-ear. Early on, my piano lessons were mostly under the Suzuki Method. In college, I took courses in ear training, theory, orchestration, conducting, and counterpoint.
