Introduction: I am a native speaker from Kobe, Japan. I teach Japanese language and culture classes, arrange tours to Japan and do business consulting. I taught Japanese language and culture classes through the UW Experimental College for around thirty years.
I have met so many wonderful people and made many good friends through my work. I enjoy introducing Americans to the unique language and culture of Japan.

Kajita-san was my conversational Japanese teacher before my first leisure trip to Japan over 20 years ago and then was my private tutor for continued Japanese instruction in connection with a business trade mission to Japan. He is an incredibly skilled and experienced professional with teaching methods that make the material memorable. More importantly, he cares about his students and takes the time to understand them and their personal and learning goals. He went above and beyond teaching the language by making personal recommendations for my travel to Japan; I ended up seeing the real Japan, experiencing local culture as a result, which further enhanced my language studies. He's a fabulous teacher and person!

I took several years of Japanese language classes from teacher Shigeki Kajita. His method of teaching sentence structures instead of single words made learning easier for me. By replacing selective words in the sentence, new sentences can readily be formed. Shigeki-san acknowledges where each student is in the process of learning Japanese and guides him/her from there. He provides a casual, friendly atmosphere in which to learn.

Shigeki's style of teaching makes it easy to grasp and quickly use conversational Japanese in a fun and reassuring learning environment. Also, his personal cultural insights made the lessons even more meaningful and beneficial - a nice bonus!

I took Japanese lessons from Shigeki-san when he was teaching at the Experimental College at the University of Washington. The classes were always a mix of students at various levels of Japanese, but Shigeki-san always found a way to include everyone and kept the classes interesting for those at a more advanced level, without overwhelming the beginners. He is a kind, thoughtful and patient teacher. I would recommend him for anyone wishing to make progress with their Japanese.
