Musical style(s)
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have a real depth of experience as an old time dance fiddler and have studied with older masters of the fiddle in the Pacific Northwest. I teach to your learning style. I love to see a student become passionate about their music and when the light bulb goes off on technical and musical aspects we are studying.

I have taken fiddle lessons from Stuart for two years and they are the highlite of my week. He has taught my bluegrass tunes, Irish tunes, ballads, waltzes, polkas, cowboy tunes and more. I can confidently assure anyone that no finer instructor will you find .

My son has been Stuart's student for almost five years, mostly on fiddle but also guitar, mandolin, and a sprinkling of banjo. One day they played penny whistle. I cannot speak highly enough of Stuart as a teacher, fiddler, and mentor to my son who has grown from a little boy into a real musician and member of the old time fiddle community. As a teacher, Stuart finds a way to work with the unique personality of each student and to find ways to support and encourage them anywhere on the learning journey. One of his students wouldn't hold still, so they had a fiddle parade. My son often has trouble with authority, but he has always been happy to receive Stuart's gentle guidance. He has a system of teaching that is well-developed, and when a student is ready to do their own thing he can easily teach whatever they want to learn. Stuart is a very involved and well-regarded member of the fiddle community. He has been able to connect us with wonderful and welcoming people for my son to make music with and learn from at jam sessions and other fiddle events. Stuart also finds opportunities for his students to play as part of student jam sessions and family dances. I will never forget seeing my six-year-old sitting up on stage, fiddling his heart out for a dance and tapping his foot wildly, even though it didn't reach the ground. Stuart is an incredibly gifted and hard-working musician. It's a treat to listen to him play at lessons, and I'm so glad that a musician of his caliber chooses to teach. He has a way of teaching students music as if it is a second language, and they speak with it! His students tend to be able to express themselves fluently through their instruments and move from instrument to instrument with ease, and I believe that it is because they learn from someone who himself plays with musical and expressive fluency. Stuart is a master of his art, and he takes joy in passing it along to newer musicians of all ages. It's a real privilege for my child to be his student. I recommend Stuart as a teacher for a student of any age who is interested in playing for fun, as a serious musician, or the perfect mix of both.

Stuart has taught both of my kids many instruments over the years - fiddle, mandolin, banjo, even penny whistle - as well as coached me on guitar so I could back them up. We have attended workshops, contests and now regularly play full length contra dances as a family band and Stuart laid the ground work for everything we do musically. Stuart is talented, patient, kind and fun. When my kids were little I would sit in on lessons and they were my favorite 60 minutes of the week! Have I said enough? If you want to play for dances, participate in jams, play back up in a band, or just improve as a musician Stuart can help you out!
