Introduction: Teaching Experience: 15 years of teaching studio take private students from beginners to advanced/college level CoCo Ya-nan Hu is an outstanding cellist, artist instructor. Ms Hu leads an active career as a cello teacher, soloist, and chamber and orchestral musician. A highly committed teacher of cello, Ms. Hu is currently on faculty at Irvine Valley College and teaching artist at Los Angeles Youth Orchestra under LA Philharmonic Association. Ms Hu was a former cellist of the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, now she serves as principal cellist of the Dana Point Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Corona Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Irvine. She is often invited to join and play with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. She has performed throughout China as well as Singapore, Switzerland and the United States. Ms. Hu holds both her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in Cello Performance from Xi’an Music Conservatory in China, where she studied with acclaimed cello professor Xiaoying Han, the secondary generation student of the most iconic cellist in the world Mstislav Rostropovich. After moving to the US, she received the Performer’s Certificate in Cello Performance, with full scholarship, from La Sierra University under the guidance of Professor Pin-Fei Tang. During her time there she also participated in the university’s Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, an educational outreach program which serves the Riverside community. Ms. Hu has also studied with Albert Roman both in China and in Switzerland, the former principal cellist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland, and the student as well as teaching assistant of the legendary cellist Janos Starker. Ms Hu has played in performance and master class settings with such renowned artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, Martin Chalifour, Ning Feng, Steven Ansell and more. In addition to performing the classical repertoire, Ms. Hu is active as a recording artist in Hollywood and performed in the Tenth Chinese-American Film Festival in Pasadena. Currently residing in Irvine-Tustin area in California, Ms. Hu enjoys an active teaching career and is committed to the development of music education of young aspiring cellists in Orange County. She maintains a very professional and successful private teaching studio. With nearly fifteen years of teaching experience, she has been a cello instructor since her undergraduate studies. Ms. Hu’s STUDENTS have continually won 1st and 2nd place in variety of competitions both in China and the US, such as the China National Youth Strings Competition, Southwestern Youth Music Festival and Satori Strings Contest in California, Satori Strings Competition, VOCE competition. ASTA Competition. She is also a member of Music Teachers Association of California and participates in the Certificate of Merit program, she sends students to participate CM level test every year and all her students have passed the level successfully from all levels till advanced level (level 10). Her STUDENTS have already won positions in prestigious local youth orchestras and chamber ensembles, such as Irvine Honors Orchestra; All-Southern California Honors Orchestra; and Prelude Chamber Strings, Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, LA Youth Philharmonic and OC’s respective elementary to high school orchestras, etc. Ms. Hu has been invited to judge multiple competitions and teach at music festivals such as Montecito International Music Festival, Sunshine International Music Festival and Satori Strings Competition. She is also an artistic advisor of Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International Music Society. Ms Hu is a truly responsible teacher, she helped my daughter built a solid foundation and technique, auditioned in great orchestra and won competitions. We are very lucky and grateful to have her as my daughter’s cello teacher.
