Introduction: I hold a MBA in music management from the William Paterson University of New Jersey and a BA in jazz studies from the University of Louisville, School of Music. I began teaching music directly out of high school with helping out at area marching band camps. I like to encourage my students to develop not only a competency for their instruments, but more importantly a lifelong passion and appreciation for the arts. I've found that each student has varying levels, needs and desires to their individual approach to learning. I emphasize and encourage my students to celebrate the small wins along their own personal journey in the music.

I was playing sax for 25-30 years, self taught and had maybe a couple months of formal lessons in total. I was in my mid 40's and a friend introduced me to B.J Jansen I started bari sax lessons with him and loved it. I was finally learning the right way. When your doing somethng wrong for 25-30 years, it's hard to correct and break old habits.. B.J. had a tremendous amount of patience with this older student, who was married, three kids and working 60 hours weeks, crazy hours. He was flexible and understanding. Hearing B.J. play inspired me to finally start those lessons. Some players can play but are not as adept at teaching someone else what they know. That is certainly NOT the case with B.J. I know I improved musically and thank him for that!
