Rolando and crew did a wonderful job painting the exterior of our house! We are very pleased with the work they did, and they are very nice and easy to work with. I could tell they really want to make their customers happy and do the job right! Our house is old (built in 1950) with wood siding so it took a lot of paint. Rolando made sure he stuck with the original estimate even though it actually required more paint than we initially thought. We are very happy and will use his service again in the future if we ever need any work done. Thank you!

We had a big, not easy interior paint job and lucked out with Randy Crumpton Painting. Our house is over 60 years old and the walls needed lots of work. There were at least 6 holes that had to be patched, lots of "artwork" decorating the wall from our 3 year artist, ceilings with water damage, and banged up trim. Randy came out to give us an estimate and was very thorough about addressing all of the work that needed to be done. Every inch of wall, ceiling, and trim needed attention! I really liked the fact that I had a contract to review in a timely manner and that this company is legitimate with regards to business license, references, and insurance. Randy and his employees went above and beyond in making our house look fabulous and I really appreciated their attention to detail. Of the three estimates we got for the job, Randy's was the only company that was insured and his pricing is very reasonable and competitive with the other companies. It is very difficult to find honest contractors and we hit the jackpot with this one. They showed up in a timely fashion and were very professional all the way around. He even called the week after the painting was finished to make sure that everything was still to our liking. I highly recommend Randy Crumpton Painting and look forward to using them again in the future.

Mr Moore did interior home painting for me. He was a Professional with a capital "P". He quoted me a reasonable price and did all that he agreed to do within budget and in the time frame that he said he would. He did all the needed prep work and the paint job was great. All the paint lines were straight and he cleaned up afterwards with no mess behind. I would refer to others.

Jari has been helping us keep an organized home for over 4 years. She's smart, efficient, reliable and goes over and beyond for her clients! She does everything from cleaning out closets to implementing orderly organizational systems to light handy work to interior design to party set up (including decorations and flower arranging). I know I'm leaving things out but she does so much! I can't say enough good things!

Chris was very fast and communicated very well. We had a little mixup with the timing but that did not detract from the work. Hope to work with him again in the future.

Jesse from Crowe Painting sanded our garage door and eaves on our house and repainted them. This helped to bring areas of our house back to life over what had been years of painting over dirt and mildew by the previous owners. He sanded the wood completely, caulked where needed and did a great job painting when that was all finished. No shortcuts here and great attention to detail. We will for sure use Crowe painting again and you should too! Great folks, great prices and someone you can trust to do what they say they will do. That's rare to find these days...great job Crowe Painting!

I had built 2 houses, and hired Tamara (Steadfast Painting) to do all the painting in both houses. Not only did she do a fantastic job, she saved me money. The job was completed in a time frame that was less than any other painter that I talked with and with better workmanship. I will use steadfast painting in the future and recommend her to any and all that need painting done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
