Early in the process but pleased to get a call in 4 minutes to set up appt early next week. A fairly small project as well- 24 feet of fence not 240 feet. We’ve had about 10 to 15 projects completed through Thumbtack and wish others would be as prompt to respond.

Adrian did an amazing job in installing some screens for my rooftop hvac. He came up with great idea to hold the fence together so that that it didn’t have to be screwed down on the roof surface but still withstand wind/rain. Very professional and a great guy. Highly recommend.

Luis did a great job. I talked to him on Saturday, he came out and gave me a free quote that same day and was even able to get the panel size I needed when others told me it was harder to find (40"). By Monday at noon I had a new side fence installed and my dogs were able to go back out into their yard! He was professional and polite and got the job done!

Ricardo quoted and built a short length of six foot high block fence for me to extend the property fence from the existing fence to the from edge of my home. It looks great and is very sturdy. He is also building a gate to match my RV gate on the opposite side of my home. He comes prepared to work, does the job and cleans up the debris. This will increase the value and street side view of my home. Thank you.

After numerous calls to numerous companies I found Ruben on Thumbtack. It would seem that most fence companies don't like to do chain link repair but Ruben responded immediately. It is quite obvious that he has 25 years of experience. He showed up the next day to do the estimate and the following morning to complete the work. He had some great ideas to keep my fence safe from neighborhood climbers who can't be bothered walking around yards but would rather climb my fence and take it down frequently. The job is complete...I am so impressed with the work that was done! (And he travelled from Avondale to Chandler!) I will pass his name along to anyone needing chain link installation or repair.

We recently purchased a home in Scottsdale, and although it had a split rail fence, we needed a fence to contain our dogs. I contacted a few fence installers, through various methods and had very little response or estimator’s that did not show up. I found Thumbtack on-line and sent a request for an estimate at lunchtime on a Friday and by 3:00 PM, four companies contacted me. Jose Flores, owner of Iron House welding was the second one I talked to that day and was available to meet me at my house after 5:00 that day, “if it was convenient for me”. Jose showed up and surveyed the property, showed me the style of fence that would be best for our needs and the material he would use to construct the fence. We discussed a price and starting date, I explained that I was not in a big hurry and would not need to pay with a credit card and asked for his best and final offer. Jose lowered the price (that was considerably lower than other bids we received) accepted the down payment with the understanding that when he delivered the materials he would receive the remaining down payment with the balance due at the completion. Jose and his crew showed up on the date we agreed to and started the job. As I was not in a hurry, the crew worked a few days and then worked on another site. Jose kept us informed of the work status and when the crew returned they completed the construction and clean up in a very professional manner. We are extremely pleased with Jose and the Iron Horse Team and would recommend them for needed projects. Jose was a pleasure to do business with and although we had a contract, I would do business with Jose on a handshake if it were acceptable in today’s culture. Rory & Stacey, Scottsdale, AZ

I got a couple of bids to repair a fence that was struck by a hit and run vehicle. Charlie with No Limits met me at the house and gave me a complete description of what it would take to complete the job, including a detailed time line. I felt comfortable with his knowledge and proposed plan of repair. His bid was priced very competitively. He showed up as promised and completed the work as outlined. The job included removing part of the backyard fence which would have left the yard exposed, but he put up a temporary wood fence to help keep people out without me asking for this. He hauled away all debris and left the yard clean. His block layers were very quick but didn't sacrifice quality. The new fence looks great! I am completely satisfied with the work of No Limits and will use them again. I recommend you give them a call for your next job!

Kevin did a fantastic job fabricating and installing a 4ft high by 20ft long fence to close off our dog run. He used materials to match our current pool and patio fencing, so it blends perfectly. He provided a fast and competitive quote and was able to get the job done very quickly. We are very pleased with the service and results.

Lev from Handy Gate Man is a true professional. I recently had my house stuccoed and needed to modify my metal fence and gate(s) to properly fit once again. Based on what was required to complete the job, Lev did outstanding. His attention to detail and meticulousness was above and beyond my expectations. He didn't try to sell me something that I didn't need and his pricing was very reasonable. I would highly recommend Handy Gate Man for your next project.

I had a great experience with Michelle & George for a junk removal project. They were very prompt and accommodating to remove some tree branch cuttings away. They arrived early and handled the job very well. I would consider using them again in the future.

Taton, IndustrializedDesign, installed a combo or prefab and retail fencing in the design that I came out with surrounding our backyard. His quote was spot on, he was creative an was able to modify the design to work around some crazy issues. He promised that the job would be completed 1-2 days and that was what he did, despite a few setbacks in the issues of working around my current trees near the trees we wanted to salvage. We are hiring him AGAIN for a different project and would recommend him to my friends and family.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.
