Consulted my Wife and I about our project to painting the house. Provided us with excellent selection of colors and options. Return and reviewed the project when we decide to make changes. Day 1 - Pressure washed the house about three hours Day 2 - Prep, taped and masked the house. and completed about 80% of the paint job Day 3 - completed the painting of the house, detailing, touchups and clean up. The four color paint scheme is awesome (as stated by my granddaughter). I received four bids (three from thumbtack and one other) Jeff's price was beat by only one contractor. I selected Jeff because of his attitude about the job and the desire to ensure we received what we envisioned. I highly recommend Classic Shades/Jeff Pinosky and will hire him for future project.

Albert and his crew were very accommodating. He scheduled us in less than a week from when we wanted the job done. The price was entirely fair and cheaper than competitors. He listened to every want and need we had regarding paint this, don't paint that. He was very receptive, cooperative, friendly, the list goes on and on. I love the work they did. I definitely recommend this company for anyone, especially someone who wants the job done right the first time.

Robert was wonderful to work with and did a lovely job on our new home. He was able to start quickly, communicated well and set expectations ahead of time along with checking to make sure he understood the specifics of the job. We had a request for a chalkboard wall in one of the rooms and he did his research ahead of time for how to best apply the speciality paint. I would definitely hire him again and have recommended him to friends.

Jim did a great job painting my ceiling and repairing drywall damage. He repaired a wall section free of charge. He cut out a piece of drywall so I could get a match to do touch up and with his help got the paint for $15 instead of $58. He is your man when you need any paint job or drywall repair. I will keep his card for future reference and refer all my friends and family to Jim. Thanks a lot.

David's team is a high energy happy group that work quickly and do excellent work. I hired them to remove popcorn ceiling, texture and paint. They also did some dry wall patches to remove wired speakers in my kitchen, master bedroom, family room. They did a really good job and came back to finish up a couple of rough places after I'd paid them. I was impressed with their timeliness and quick work. For the most part, they were right on schedule. I think the highest compliment I can pay them, is to be willing to have them do more work. The attached pictures show ceiling texture, sealed and painted flat after popcorn removal. Not much to see, but that's what you'd want.

Nick is such a great guy. I changed my mind on paint at the very last minute and he was so incredibly helpful and understanding, making sure the color was exactly right. He and his team were so hard working and professional and most importantly TOTALLY AFFORDABLE! We will use them again in the fall to paint our exterior. I highly recommend them. They were phenomenal.

Jose and his crew painted my home in one day and did a fabulous job. My house looks brand new...just beautiful. I was impressed by how quickly and professional the job was done. They prepped well to protect what wasn't to be painted from getting painted. The even trimmed a bush away from the house so that part of the house could be painted. If I had to give an area where Jose could improve I would say communication. I didn't get a phone call when Jose couldn't arrive when he said he would and I wondered when he would be here. One time I was able to get a hold of him and another time when he didn't arrive as scheduled I could not reach him and his voice mail box was full. Again, I really needed to know when he was coming so I could revise my schedule. A phone call would have been much appreciated. A little thing like that can make one doubt whether you made the right decision in hiring a contractor to do a job. It all worked out and the job was done well. Just wanted to leave some words of advice to improve customer service. I would recommend Jose to others to paint their homes.

Tiffany and her team did an amazing job! They worked late hours to get the job done before we moved into the house. All the paint lines are clean and look phenomenal! They were fast and efficient and cleaned up after themselves. I will definitely be hiring them for my next painting project!

We needed a dryer vent re-attached and some drywall repaired/textured/painted. I had three other people we have used in the past not return texts/calls so I turned to Thumbtack for help. I found Mr. Right Handyman (Joseph) and he was quick to respond, and find a time that worked for my schedule, his schedule, and our tenant's schedule. He's very professional and punctual, and he did an awesome job at getting this project finished. We will definitely be using him again in the future.

I was so very impressed with the paint job I got from chuparosa. The paint made my house look brand new! I went with the eggshell finish so it has a little shine to it, I’m told it helps reduce that dirty look when dust storms blow in. I think the price was fair. I got 3 bids and this one was the middle in terms of pricing. Based on thumbtack reviews I went with chuparosa. Thank you again Hugh and George.

Larry was very professional and always on time when he said he would be at the house. Larry's estimate was among the most reasonable and he was the only painter we got estimates from that included two coats to ensure coverage over the darker color we already had on the walls. Larry even stopped work when he noticed that the color that the paint store mixed for him did not match the sample we already had on the wall. Larry went back to the paint store and had it remixed and the final color matched perfectly. We were very happy with Larry's work and would not hesitate to contact him again for our next project.

Make sure you deal with George Senior, he is a true gentleman! I agree with all the previews reviews, they are prompt, efficient, and professional. George Senior even smoothed things over with our HOA . Would I use them again, absolutely. They used a high quality Dunn Edwards paint. However I would not deal with his son again, George Junior, as he is a hard pressure salesman and disrespectful.

Jake did a great job sanding and painting my kitchen cabinets. He took his time to make sure they were done correctly and turned out great. He also went above and beyond by fixing a broken drawer that he didn’t need to fix. I would hire him again!

Dario and his team were great and we love the way our house turned out. So glad we went with him. His attention to detail and customer service was greatly appreciated. They had to work around me and my husband and our twin toddlers a few times and they did it with a smile. I have already recommended him to friends and family! Thank you, Dario!!

They were awesome. The work they did was beautiful, and they were incredibly professional and assisted in every stage of the process. From paint pickup, to colormatching all the way through to cleanup and impeccable detail in their painting, they did it all. I am highly impressed with their skillful abilities, their cleanliness, hard work ethic, and their ability to make important recommendations that I easily would have overlooked. I will definitely be using them again. Plus, their pricing is unrivaled, truly. I am so pleased. Thank you Jose & team!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
