We have enjoyed our services from Charles very much! He helped us remodel our tub/shower into a walk in shower and we've been thoroughly impressed and happy with the results. Our home isn't built perfectly and Charles did what he could to make the best of the situation and we greatly appreciated it! He even helped us fix our light/vent since it broke during the remodel and were super impressed with his depth of knowledge in other areas other than the bathroom. Overall very happy!

We are so pleased with our roof that was jus repaired and replaced. Ultra Roofing did an excellent job. When we purchased our home, we knew we need a roof; it hadn't been touch in 15 plus years! Joe was very honest and didn't try to sell us; he knows what he's doing and gave me quote one his first visit within 20 min. He explained what product he would use and why and how long the job would take to complete . After having several other quotes, I knew immediately this company was the right one for the job. Joe was on the job with his crew everyday inspecting their work and progress and he treats his crew with great regard. They were aware that rain would occur during the installation period, and they made sure that my roof was finished only to a point where they complete before the rain happened. I'm very satisfied with the finished job and would recommend Ultra Roofing to my neighbors...which we have! If you are looking for an excellent roof and the job done right, look no further, you've got the right company.

Rick and his crew did an amazing job. He's very professional and personable. They addressed any and every issue that arose during the project, and explained everything to me, due to me not being able to be at home when the issues arose. His crew was great and personable as well. More than anything, the work Rick and his crew did was done right, eliminating any possible issues from arising. I highly recommend CBE for all of your remodels and if you are building a home or shop, these guys can and will do it right the first time. It was money well spent.

My wife and I were looking to have a fire place mantel built and installed in our new construction home. Because of time constraints, we weren’t able to give Jeremiah a big window to complete the job. Jeremiah built the most beautiful mantel, stained it, and installed it in a week for far less less than I could have imagined. Jeremiahs main concern, in the short period we worked with him, was our satisfaction. After reassuring him he exceeded our expectation 10 fold, he was at ease. I will 100% reach back out to him for any and all carpentry needs!!! WOW WOW WOW.

We had a water loss insurance claim that affected our whole house. Since our house was older we were upgrading alot of items and Scott did a great job of working with us to help us hone our vision for what we wanted to do in our house. He also found good alternatives to make sure we stayed within budget. He stayed on budget, was on time, and very friendly and professional. His work product is really good too (good with customized items) - we loved the new European shower he put in for us! He has done two jobs at our house now and built in a garage for our friends. Thanks Scott!

After talking to 5 different sources to build an In-law suite on our home, I chose Duke Dumont. Stuart Price was the GC. He was informative, honest, caring and my choice from the very beginning even though the quote was more than we could afford. He was the only one who gave us a start to finish option. He worked with us to get as much as we could with our funding and advised us on the contractors WE brought in. Even advising against one that was way over priced! He took care of MORE than was expected and stuck with us to the end, even though he was only responsible to the dry wall. I can't say enough about the quality of the people who built our room, they were honest and cared about the job they did for us!! I would and HAVE told people about Stuart and Duke Dumont.

Reactor Studios did an excellent job in taking a my broad vision for a custom retirement home and developed a rational, comprehensive plan. Ken Miller took the time to understand my wants and needs and added many construction details and features that I never considered. Reactor Studios developed the plan, assisted with vetting general contractors and suppliers, and provided valuable project oversight. The result was an architecturally significant yet highly practical home. He truly is a visionary Architect.

I was referred to US Vet Construction by a close friend. I had a to sell my home fast and needed to paint, replace my carpet with tile and add some custom baseboards to my home. Scott and his entire team were professional from the very first day. They immediately provided my family and I with straight forward answers and a specific time frame for when the work would be completed. Being new at remodeling, we were worried about overcharges and hidden costs. Scott’s team educated us on how to find average costs for labor specific to the work we wanted done so that we could feel confident about what a fair price should be. Plus any small errors that came up were rectified immediately and at no cost to me. They completed the work timely as promised and made our home look amazing! Now in my new home, I looking forward to using US Vet Construction for major projects like crown molding and redesigning my laundry room!!!

The owner Michael is a true visionary and architectural designer. He can take a space and transform it into an oasis. Michael takes your homes style and creates a custom design to compliment it. Michael's design came to life through not only our new pool and spa, but also structural walls with water features and illuminated landscaping for a dramatic effect. Every construction project comes with its challenges; Michael was always available to speak with and ready with a solution to keep the project moving forward. Michael's countless years of construction experience are an asset when partnering with the city and local utility for the permitting process. We are thrilled with our new resort style pool and backyard. Our pictures speak for themselves!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
