David has provided photography and videography services for us on a couple of occasions. He gas done our daughter's Wedding, including Engagement photos prior to that. We had about 12 blown up into 18x20 and hung throughout the reception hall. These generated a lot of conversation. I just had him to my mother's 7th birthday as a surprise. Family had flown in from around the country. He created a Montage of photos and video recorded major moments of the birthday party, including seeing up an area for people to talk about my mother. He then edited the to have a professional result. We will no doubt hire him again, and as I understand it, 2 bridesmaids are considering him for their Wedding. I highly recommend, and I rarely do that.

My husband and I really loved the videos Chris made for us! Both the highlight film and full length had their own unique qualities. We also appreciate that Chris gave us the option to choose the song we wanted for the highlight film. Not all videographers do that. What I, Miranda, personally loved about Chris is how easy it was to talk to him, and how comfortable I felt with him around. I never felt uncomfortable or awkward, even during the getting ready shots, and that was the first time I had met him in person. He was a perfect gentlemen and I’m grateful he was there. Here’s a few detailed shots that I screenshot straight from the videos he created of our day! Do know that he communicates as often as you reach out. Sometimes I worried that we hadn’t been in touch more before the wedding, but I recognized that it was because there wasn’t anything we were waiting for or that was pending. We were that well prepared. Besides, he always responded promptly when I did reach out, so communication isn’t an issue. We highly recommend Chris!

CineDream Studios and Carly in particular were extremely smooth and professional. After our initial consultation we needed no further contact until the week of our wedding, and she executed our vision beautifully. I would highly recommend her services for any and all video projects.

My husband and I weren't planning on having a wedding film initially, but we are so glad that we did! The way all of our moments were captured is just breathtaking! We absolutely love watching and re-watching it! It's also a wonderful gift for parents and grandparents! :) James and his team were easy and fun to work with, and we barely noticed them on our big day --- but you wouldn't know it by the footage! I highly recommend James to anyone who is even remotely considering a wedding video! His professionalism and work quality are amazing and he helped our day go by so smoothly!

It was VERY last minute that hiring a photographer was necessary. I had never worked with Dave before. We had a lengthy phone interview, and then a short "on hold" while I discussed with my clients. We pulled the trigger and met Dave the next day! It was important the essence of this party was captured. A little boy was having the most outrageous, fun birthday party a child could ask for and every aspect of it needed to be on film!! And that meant from the absolute beginning of the guests arriving, to creating wax molds at the end - the entire experience needed to be remembered for a long, long time. And it will be . . . A photographer who takes the time to listen with intent, ask questions ahead a time, take the initiative to visit the site in advance tells me there was a real professional in Dave. Throughout the entire day, Dave knew what his plan was, knew how to be in our scene, but wasn't!! His presence was everywhere, but yet you never felt like he was intruding anyone's space. 6 hours FLEW by . . . And as we wrapped up and said goodbye to a spectacular day, Dave was still shooting . . . But this time, he was capturing a family photo - something most photographers wouldn't have thought of . . . But Dave did!! Thank you Dave!! A job well done and forever remembered!!

Kevin did an amazing job! The engagement moment he captured was phenomenonal! He truly caught the surprise of my fiancé and the crowd. He used a quad helicopter to get incredible arial shots. He also thought outside of the box and came up with an idea to shoot a documentary component as well. His price was very reasonable! And he has a great positive attitude along with excellent customer service! I highly recommend him! Thank you Kevin!

I did a photo shoot with Dextra Films and I couldn’t be happier! They are professional and produce quality work. Before the shoot, Justin went above and beyond to scout out the best places to photograph at the specified location. Because of that, the photo shoot went smoothly and the pictures turned out fantastic! I will definitely be using them in the future!

We had a great experience working with AZ LG Films. For this shoot we worked with Lemar and were very happy with entire process. The challenge for us was that we could not be on location and had to trust the videographer to get what we needed in an area we didn't know a lot about. Lemar was very engaged and responsive leading up to and after the shoot, which put us at ease. He gathered all the shots me needed and additional ones as well. Also, if you are looking for aerial footage, he does a fantastic job and we were very happy with what he filmed for us. We look forward to reaching out to him with more projects and hope he'll be available to work with us again.

Tatum is such a hard worker. She knows what she’s doing and if she has a vision - she gets it done just how she wants it to be. She is very experienced and knows how to do pretty much anything regarding film making/editing etc ; and she’s only a junior in high school! She’s a pleasure to work with and I become more and more impressed with her abilities every single day.

I had the privilege to work with Jeffrey filming a wedding this past month. What sets Jeffrey apart from other videographers I've worked with is his love for film technique, and his overall client-focused care. To him it's all about producing a style that is both professional, and unique to him. When you see it, you know it's his work. As a fellow professional, he made me want to write this review so people know how awesome this guy is. I'm telling you, Jeffrey comes highly recommended by me, and he will prove it to you the first time he meets you.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

        • Package 1: $1,400
          • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
          • Two cameras with audio equipment.
          • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
          • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
        • Package 2: $1,800
          • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
