I met Ms. Cobian in a very critical moment in my personal and musical life. I was very confused about my vocal instrument because some teachers told me I was a baritone and others told me I was a tenor. I ventured into the baritone repertory and as a consequence my voice lose it's balance and it's ease. The vocal quality I used to have disappeared. I was truly desperate and confused... then I met Ms. Cobian. She wasn't only a great teacher to me, but a great friend. She helped me to restore my voice and my faith on my self and my instrument. She helped me to gain back my self esteem and security in my singing abilities. She made wonders on my vocal technique and helped me to regain my higher range and regain my tenor sound. She helped me to understand how to resolve technical issues in singing passages and how to deeply understand vocal interpretation according to the different vocal styles. She taught me how to find different colors, inflections and how to apply them into my repertory to give my singing credibility and projecting feelings and emotions through my voice. I can say, Ms. Cobian had been one of the most influential teachers I've ever had. I admire her passion and her love for teaching and her dedication to help her students to be the best they can possibly be. Thanks Ms. Cobian for your teachings and your advice!

Having Dorca Cobian as my voice instructor was the best experience I ever had. I have taken many voice classes privately and in college but it wasn't until I started to take classes with Dorca that I really found my voice. I must say that Dorca really knows what she is teaching and insures you learn the proper techniques to use your voice and not your throat. In just a few months after taking lessons with her my voice improved so much and I realized that I was no straining my voice as use to. Many people would come up to me and ask me what I was doing and my response was I had learned to sing properly from an amazing instructor. I highly recommend Dorca Cobian. She will take your voice where it has never been before.

I've known Ms. Cobian for more than 20 years, when we both voice majors at at the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico. Even then, Dorca was an excellent singer and musician and was showing promise as a future voice teacher and coach. Over the years I have received excellent advice from her and became my mentor when I started my own studio. I have being fortunate that today my studio is quite succesful, and I have no problem stating that Ms. Cobian's guidance has and expertise has helped me grow as a teacher at an accelerated pace. To this day, Ms. Cobian is my go-to colleague when I need advice in terms of repertoire or new ideas on how help my own students!

I have been taking voice lessons with Dorca for the past few months. I have to say I've not only had improved as a singer but as a person in the spiritual manner. Dorca understands and transmits singing comes from the soul. Good technique comes from a relaxed and balanced body and mind. How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I was 13 I saw my first opera on TV: Verdi's Don Carlo. Kiri Te Kanawa was singing the most beautiful sound I have ever heard in my life! From that moment I wanted to be a singer!
What types of customers have you worked with?
* I work on vocal development focusing on vocal health. * I coach Classical styles as Opera, Oratorio and German, French, Italian, English and Spanish Art Songs. * I coach diction in German, Italian, French and Spanish * I prepare singers for auditions, recitals and competitions. * I work with singers who have developed vocal damage rebuilding and re coordinating the vocal instrument focusing in developing a healthier sound and technique. * I do voice lessons in English or Spanish.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently worked with a Mexican tenor who had a lot of vocal insecurities on the higher range. He was thinking in changing from tenor to baritone when he started taking lessons with me via Skype. We worked together to re coordinate his voice and finding a higher and lighter placement to develop those high notes. He is now singing securely a High C# and has been accepted as a student by Alfredo Portilla.
