Introduction: I love math! And I love getting to know my students and helping them achieve their goals. I'm a credentialed high school math teacher with over 13 years experience, a BA in Math from UC Berkeley, an MA in Teaching Math, and National Board Certification. I have a deep understanding of the learning process and am passionate about working with students to help them strengthen their mathematical thinking. I put in extra time to plan lessons, review/grade student work, and make supplemental material (worksheets, practice tests). I use an iPad Pro and Zoom to tutor virtually. This allows students to see my writing in real time as we work together. I am dedicated to the success of my students!

Mr. Cottone’s patience, infectious love of math, warmth, and humor made class something I always looked forward to for the year and a half he taught me. Whenever I needed help, he effortlessly figured out the precise part of a problem or topic that I hadn’t grasped. Then he had ready as many different ways of thinking about the problem as I needed to deeply understand it. I highly recommend Mr. Cottone for a sharp, thoughtful tutor who won’t give up until you come away with a true understanding of math (and appreciation for the fun of it too!).

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Pre-algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre Calculus, Trigonometry: $50/hr (discounted from $60/hr) Calculus: $60/hr Special offer: $50 credit to current students who refer another student to me. Please inquire about the details!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I ask for new students to send me information regarding their course and course materials (textbook, etc), copies of their graded work (quizzes and/or tests), and questions/topics/assignments we will be working on in our first session. Graded work helps me determine which areas to focus on when reviewing past concepts, and current assignments help me tailor our work to best support students as they learn new material.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BA in applied mathematics, an MA in teaching K-12 mathematics, teaching credentials from California and Arizona, and National Board Certification. I have been a classroom teacher for 14 years, 13 of those teaching high school mathematics. I have taught in international, independent, private, and charter schools, teaching students from grades K through 12. I have also tutored university students pursuing degrees that have mathematics requirements.
