I can't tell you how impressed I am with Robert and his company. Communication was terrific, he arrived promptly and serviced my dishwasher to perfection. And, after dealing with quite a few surly repairmen over the years, Robert was a breath of fresh air. Cheerful, chatty, honest and devoted, I could only wish there were more like him! Overall, I'd rate this experience 11/10, and will definitely call Done Rite the next time an appliance gets all cranky on me.

The first projects Joseph Lynch did for me was to replace built-in appliances; microwave, disposal, and dishwasher. He has subsequently repaired problems with both outdoor irrigation plumbing and indoor plumbing, including replacing a water heater. He helped me with renovation projects of all kinds, such as running electrical lines to add ceiling fans to bedrooms, and replacing counters, cabinets, toilets and sinks. He has a lot of experience, and knows how to do things right the first time.

Mark was on time and fixed our dryer in a very short time. He is very knowledgeable and personable. Mark also diagnosed our dishwasher and we are scheduled to have that fixed as well. Reasonably priced, I am happy we called Mark. He works on weekends too.

Received a response within minutes of submitting the quote, scheduled later in the evening for a diagnosis. Couldn't be happier with the responsiveness. Scott repaired a leaky refrigerator and replaced the temperature sensor of my stove. I was also pleased with the options available to pay for service, all major credit cards accepted. I highly recommend Scott Phillips with River City Appliance.

Your technician was very good at determining what the problem with my dishwasher was and fixed it to my satisfaction--he also found that hard water had clogged some of the openings and that needed to be cleaned as well.

I needed a frig to move into a new place, but the cost was going to be problem with all the other moving costs. I found Louie's through a 'No Credit Check' financing service online. I had gone to another used appliance store connected to that financing service, and that store was horrendous -- filthy appliances, incompetent uninformed staff, a total turn-off to a prospective buyer. Calling the financing service, I heard about Louie's. I called Louie's and the salesman who answered was intelligent, understanding, professional and helpful. I went there, and I was able to find a suitable frig, and finance it through the financing company. I was very impressed with Louie's salespeople, their financing VP and assistant, their products on display, and their deliveryman. Highly recommended!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
