I hired David Gomes for installing two toilet fixtures. In addition to installing the fixtures, I had him do tile grouting in the shower and outdoor motion sensing solar light fixtures. He has affable manners and good at what he does. He is very prompt, flexible, and reasonable. I will hire him again without reservations.

RIcardo was great - super helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. He was incredibly responsive and was willing to pitch in on additional things to help make my move out as smooth as possible. For projects he helped install some flooring, paint, move some furniture and patch some holes. Would recommend him for sure.

We initially contacted Albino to get a quote for interior painting. We liked him right away, and ended up chatting about other projects we were thinking about doing. We were thrilled when he said his team could do the work we had in mind within our timeline, and that he could manage the project! An overview of the work: - After they did demolition, it was revealed that large sections of our hardwood floors were damaged. Albino's team replaced the damaged sections so you would never know which wood is original and which is new, and refinished all of the hardwood floors throughout the house - the before and after is amazing! - They re-did 2 bathrooms - one of which required skilled plumbing work like moving a toilet, retiling the shower and floor, and replacing a single sink vanity with a double sink vanity. That bathroom is probably our favorite room in the house! - They did the paint job as initially discussed and painted every square inch of the inside of our house! This included painting our outdated oak kitchen cabinets and installing updated knobs, and the cabinets now look great! - There were countless other things the team did - like laying down laminate flooring in the kitchen and hooking up new kitchen appliances, installing overhead lights and dimmers, installing our new front doors as well as interior doors, and picking up supplies on as needed basis. Albino is trustworthy, fair, accountable, responsive, and kind. Each person on his team has their specialties and he is good at resource allocation to manage the client's costs. We felt like we were in good hands with Albino, and wholeheartedly recommend that you reach out to him for any projects you're considering!

This was an odd project where we wanted to use a large Bukara knotted carpet as wall to wall. We are builders ourselves but no carpet people wanted to touch the project. Dennis got to me right away after I posted on Thumbtack-my first time- and talked me through the project with advice that we took and it came out fantastic. We had one long phone call and two shorter ones re various tools and details. We talked enough about Marmoleum and carpet that now I have a new and for real flooring outfit for our projects.

Initially, I hired Purev General Contracting to handle the demolition of my kitchen in preparation for remodel. I was so impressed with the work that I have hired the company to install hardwood flooring in the entryway and vinyl tiles in the kitchen. After the removal of ceramic tile in the entry and carpeting in the main hallway, Hada, the job supervisor pointed out that under the carpet was hardwood that could be refreshed at a cost less than re-tiling. He is in the middle of the job now and I'm sure that there is another good review to come.

I couldn't be happier with my experience working with Michael. I had a good initial impression of Michael, he was very ready to sit down and go over previous projects (budgets, photos, and materials). There was complete transparency from beginning to end; I was confident with the project and how much money I was going to spend. The finished bathroom looked better than I had hoped, and it was all within the budget Michael helped me formulate from square 1. In additional to the great results, Michael and his staff were incredibly respectful of my house, removing their shoes and laying down plastic to keep the carpet clean. At one point they erected a plastic sheet wall between the master bathroom and the master bedroom to keep particulates from getting into our bedroom. And as an added bonus, Michael helped fix a wall in our living room for free, including texturing and painting. I would recommend Michael to anyone who is looking to remodel their house. I've recommended him to my mother and other friends.

I was recommended to Lea Floor Covering by my cousin who had laminate installed. I am never comfortable with one recommendation, so I got measurements and quotes for the entire house from 4 other flooring companies. My 1st choice was Lea Floor Covering because they had the best deal on the flooring and actually helped me figure out what I really wanted/needed. I started off wanting laminate and ending up getting Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), Which I LOVE! My 5 stars are for the good work and professionalism of the installer. Garrett came on time, worked all day, and left absolutely no mess. The best part was my entire house was done in 1 day. He also recommended the type of cleaner I should use on the flooring and how to care for it. My new floors look wonderful, I would defiantly recommend Lea Floor Covering to anyone looking for good quality flooring, knowledgeable staff and an all over easy experience.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
