I was diagnosed with Hives. From the advice of my allergy doctor, I took Zyrtec for 3 months but it didn't help at all. And because of the severe side effects of Zyrtec i.e. drowsiness, I stopped using Zyrtec and decided to look for an alternative treatment. I found Dr. Chen. After several treatments of acupuncture plus Chinese herbs, my symptom was completely gone. Dr. Chen went above and beyond to listen, diagnose and spend quality time to treat for my symptom. I am very thankful for his kindness and expertise.

It has been a pleasure receiving acupuncture treatment from Veronica. At first, I had several questions about my experience and she took a time thoroughly explaining accupunture points, the procedure reccomendation, and guided me along the procedure. Veronica is welcoming, gentle, professional, knowledgeble, and made me feel comfortable along the process. I was treated for anxiety, stress, and mensturation. After several procedures I notice an increase in my energy level and cramping had lessened. I continue to keep in touch and follow up with my procedure. Therefore, I reccomend Veronica as an accupunturist!!

I work in Shipping & Receiving and handle heavy freight which involves a lot of lifting. I also play guitar and over the years all this repetitive motion caused me chronic muscle pain throughout my left shoulder to the top of my head. It got to the point I needed professional help; I discovered Chang Oh through my church and began to visit his clinic regularly. The therapy sessions he provided relieved me of all my pain and I am now convinced acupuncture and acupressure and massage are my preferred alternative to Western drugs. I recommend Chang Oh's excellent services to anyone suffering from chronic pain! Sincerely, Phil H.

I don't like needles, but my husband had been bugging me for a long time to try acupuncture for my plantar fasciitis. Sheri was recommended by a friend and I went. With Sheri's touch, I did not even feel the needles and within 4-5 treatments my PF was gone. Very happy patient. Then I went back to Sheri for knee pain and swelling and after a few sessions I found relief. I am so glad I have found this non-invasive method for healing. Sheri is pretty awesome.

Scott was amazing! My low back had been hurting for four months. it was hard to sit and it got so bad I was starting to miss work. After the first session of acupuncture and massage I was feeling a lot better. In a couple of weeks all the pain was gone. Scott also taught me some exercises to keep the pain from returning. He said he teaches some kind of chinese yoga that is supposed to help but I don't have time for that.

Allison Stein is incredibly talented. I originally hired her for doula services, but ended up receiving acupuncture from her as well. Although I had a great pregnancy, I had passed my “guess date”, which concerned my doctor, who in turn, recommended that I induce labor. Induction was not in my birth plan, so I called Allison, who suggested that I try acupuncture. I did and the same day she worked on me, I went into labor! Not only was Allison a great acupuncturist, but I had no idea how valuable her doula services would be until I actually went into labor. She came over to my house in the middle of the night, traveled to the hospital and stayed with me until I delivered my baby. My labor was long and difficult – an intense few days that threw me curves I wasn’t expecting. Through it all, Allison never wavered. She completely understood and respected my birth plan and if it weren’t for her support, I probably would have made other choices – ones that didn’t fit into my original plan. Her experience in a hospital setting and her ability to communicate well with the staff was a not only a bonus, but truly invaluable. She was a great mediator between the doctors and myself, alleviating any additional stress and allowing me to concentrate on giving birth. I highly recommend Allison Stein. She is an amazing doula, acupuncturist and one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

After my second visit with Conor the extreme pain in my upper neck and arms had disappeared. I have been dealing with chronic pain for over 15 years and was more than relieved to have relief. His promptness, bedside manner and patience in explaining his craft was perfect! He has opened up the world of acupuncture to me and is a huge part of my path to healing. The great thing about Conor is that he is detailed with his treatments and answers all your questions, he has valuable advice on the whole person. Thank you! I will be a lifelong patient.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

There are many proven health benefits of acupuncture, whether you’re seeking short-term relief or need help with a chronic health condition. This alternative healing is likely why millions of adults nationwide get acupuncture treatments each year. Acupuncture provides pain relief, can help speed the body’s natural healing process, and has also been proved to have positive outcomes on mental health concerns such as depression. Acupuncture can also help relieve discomfort associated with chronic and terminal illnesses. For example, acupuncture has been proved to be effective in helping cancer patients manage pain, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, hot flashes, xerostomia (dry mouth), neuropathy (nervous system problems), anxiety, depression and sleep disturbances, according to Cancer.gov. Acupuncture is a safe and effective alternative to opioids and other pain medications, which not only are hard on the body but also present the risk of addiction. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services found that people had less pain or were better able to manage pain when they received acupuncture as part of their health treatment.

      How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture works by restoring the body’s natural healing powers. Acupuncture involves placing very thin needles into specific points on the body to influence the body’s energy flow and help the body heal itself in a natural way. In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is linked to the belief that disease is caused by disruptions to the flow of energy (called qi in Chinese) in the body. The acupuncturist places whisper-thin needles into the arms, back, neck and other areas where the chi (or energy flow) has been blocked. The acupuncture needles stimulate points on or under the skin called acupuncture points or acupressure points, releasing this qi. These pathways — called “meridians” — become re-stimulated by the needles to bring blood and healing to the body. In Western medicine, acupuncture has been proved to relieve pain and help provide healing and relief from painful symptoms associated with everything from headaches to asthma to cancer. Western medicine sees the use of the needles as a way to stimulate the body’s nervous system, thereby prompting healing.

Is it safe to use acupuncture?

The general consensus from doctors, researchers and government health organizations is that yes, it is safe to have acupuncture. As with all things, there can be some risks associated with acupuncture, but with proper attention to a few key details, your health should be in good hands when you receive treatments.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (a branch of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services) states that “relatively few complications from using acupuncture have been reported. Still, complications have resulted from use of non-sterile needles and improper delivery of treatments.” Thus, the health risks associated with acupuncture are generally a result of human error (non-sterile needles and improper placement) as opposed to how acupuncture works in your body. Research your acupuncture provider to make sure they meet state regulations, and inquire about the use of FDA-regulated acupuncture needles. These are classified as medical devices for use by licensed practitioners, and the NCCIH states they are required to be manufactured and labeled according to certain standards (sterile, nontoxic, and labeled for single use only).

      What is an acupuncture treatment?

An acupuncture treatment is a type of integrative health care session that uses needles (and sometimes heat and/or electrical stimulation) to stimulate the body’s nervous system to begin a healing process. Long practiced in traditional Chinese medicine and other Eastern cultures, acupuncture has gained widespread acceptance and use as a complementary and integrative part of healing in Western medicine. During an acupuncture treatment, the patient lies in a relaxed position on a table that is very similar to a massage table. The acupuncturist, having done a diagnosis of health concerns and determined a course of treatment, will insert thin stainless steel needles into the prescribed acupuncture points. These points are determined by the patient’s health needs. The practitioner may gently manipulate the needles to trigger a healing response in the body. Typically there is no pain associated with the treatment. A session may use anywhere from 6-30 needles or more, depending on what illness is being treated. The needles can remain in place for 5-30 minutes, with 15 minutes being a common time. Acupuncture treatments are often prescribed in a series, based on patient need.
