Mark is fantastic. He did several jobs at our home in Redlands, and completed them very efficiently. All work was done to the highest standards, and very quickly. Everything from start to finish in each job went exactly as planned and Mark conducts himself like a true professional. Coming from a family of contractors, I can genuinely say that Coastal Handyman Connection is the real deal. Fantastic work at a very reasonable price!

Daniel was prompt, professional, personable and offered a competitive rate. During different stages of his work, he conferred with me to ensure his work was on point. Also, he didn't stop until his work was completed to my satisfaction. I told him to he sure to add me to his phonebook because I'll be contacting him again for future home projects.

Yes, some would think that one wood blind is the same as any wood blind. I regretfully found out that this is not true. I thought I would save time and just purchase the builders window blinds package that was offered when I was selecting the options for my new home. Well, after only six months of living in my home the wood blinds started to warp and crack. They made my brand new home look terrible. It was a terrible investment. I found Made in the Shade Blinds & More and they were able to schedule an appointment with me the following day. They came and educated me on the fact that all wood blinds are not alike and I just wasted a lot of money. They were able to show me wood blinds samples, explain and show me the difference between the wood blinds they offer and the ones installed in my house. All of the window treatments they offer come with a limited life-time warranty. The kicker is - I paid just a little bit more than I did when I purchased the builder package. Made in the Shade Blinds & More is an excellent company and I highly highly recommend them.

Patricia is amazing! We recently bought a new house, and she has been involved every step of the way. She knows her materials and offers her advice/opinion but isn't pushy about it. She works with you and your budget. She also understands the immense pressure you could be under from buying a new home and she helps take some of that away by taking out the guess work of the interior design of the home (cabinet selection, floors, counter tops, window treatments, fixtures). The best investment I have made in the process by far. I highly recommend her services.

We had a great experience working with Sandi! Our outdated family room and eating area needed some change, but we didn't know where to start. Sandi was able to transform the room into a modern space that's become our favorite place in the house! She was easy to work with and after the initial design consultation provided suggestions for specific items we wanted to purchase and created mood boards and 3D pictures so we could see what the room would look like. She has a great eye for design and provided advice on color selection, decor items, and furniture placement while making sure the room was family-friendly and would grow with us through the years. Sandi is warm, thoughtful, professional and makes the design and remodel process smooth and enjoyable. She was considerate of our budget, schedule and was easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend Sandi Kaneko Interiors!

Jan Cooper did an excellent job with our home remodel. She helped us establish a realistic budget that we could stick to, She choose appropriate materials - flooring, tile, cabinets, bathroom fixtures etc. She established a check list for the contractor of what materials were needed and what we had already purchased. Her fee was very reasonable considering all of the work she did.

V & T are the best team we have come across. Vero, is warm and charismatic. She helped us with the color coordination for our project. Telmo, is very professional and has impeccable craftsmanship. The thing I liked about Telmo, he is punctual and pays attention to detail. V & T gave us different options for our bathroom remodel. We were quite pleased with the finished product. Furthermore, we were quite surprised how affordable they are. We came in under budget and on time. We highly recommend V & T for all your home projects. There is a waiting list. However, in my opinion V & T are worth the wait, you will be pleased.

My son and I had moved from a large home to a much smaller condo. This change was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I had to consolidate a lot of my furniture and just decided that I wanted to start over. The most important spaces were my son's room and my bedroom. I wanted this transition to be as easy as possible for him. After a lot of research online, I found that JC Cross was the most reasonable and I loved that she was timely in responding to me. The process was a little long due to her schedule, but it was worth it because what mattered most was the outcome. Nikoya did a wonderful job with my room. It's exactly what I needed. It feels so good coming home to a room that i feel so comfortable in and that represents me. But my son's room was the best. She gave him storage and created a space that he is so happy in. Sometimes I have to beg him to come eat. He stays in there as much as he can. It's a relief for me that he has joy during this big change for us. It really helped us settle into the new journey our lives are on and Nikoya really cared about us as clients. I highly recommend her!

David first came and did the painting for my in-laws home. He did the entire home (about 1000 sq ft) in a day. Him and his helper were super neat and cleaned up after, it was as if they had not ever been there except for perfectly painted walls. Then, came the hard part. He put down tile throughout the house. Should have been a simple job but it was not. First, we had a floor heater that had been removed, had the previous contractor fix the hole but the floor would sag in that area. David built it up from the ground up so it is even and you would never know that there had been this floor heater before. 2nd, we discovered mold where the previous contractor had laid the backer board on there. David and his helper took out the molded pieces of wood, cleaned everything up and rebuild the section of flooring. 3rd We found that the floors had started sagging in the kitchen - so before laying the tile, David had to work around the cabinets, but somehow he was able to put spacers to make the floor even so in the future the tile will lay just as flat as it does today. Now the kitchen is beautiful and safe which is super important for the parents and gives us peace of mind. David has a very strong work ethic. He shows up when he says he will and he does a beautiful job. This house looks polished and brand new with the paint job and the new tile. My in-laws LOVED it and are super happy!! Thank you David! I would and will recommend Esquivel and Son to anyone that asks for someone that is reliable, trustworthy, reasonably priced and does excellent work.

I have a rental property in Big Bear! He fixed the back door. Drywalled a wall and nailed down some carpet that needed to be nailed down. He sanded the front and back redwood decking and applied the waterproof Thompson sealer. He also stopped by at Home depot and picked up the materials I needed. This project took two weekends but Matt Got it done! The cost was 2,100 and cost of materials. I would call him again. He got the job done, and I feel good that my decks are protected from the snow coming this winter.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
