As a twelve year veteran in the U.S. Military, it is easy for me to identify honesty. Within five minutes of meeting Joseph Mason, it was evident he was born with integrity. After requesting and explaining what I wanted done to a specific tree, Joseph informed me in great detail why what I wanted was something he did not recommend. in his lengthy explanation I remembered two critical points he made that caught my attention. First, he informed me that the time of the year for my specific request would have a high possibility of putting the tree in severe shock ultimately resulting to death. By no means was Joseph going to allow it. Second, because of the fact, He did not want to harm the tree he suggested an alternate solution which was smarter and cheaper than I would've imagined. Anyone else would have done what i originally wanted, charge me a great deal of money, and walk away knowing that my favorite tree could possibly die. It was because of Joseph's integrity and humbleness that I new I did not need another Estimate from some other company. In addition to Joseph's professionalism and knowledge his Work he did for my wife and I was AMAZING. Mason's Treescape Company did not rush, ensured every tedious detail was done right, cleaned my entire yard and did not leave my property without asking my wife if she approved. I am more than pleased with this company and they can trust me when I say they will have my business for the rest of my life and will always recommend you to everyone who needs a tree Service. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

I had a very large tree in front of my first home I bought and I wanted it gone for our new landscaping plans. A few guys came by and checked it out and gave me a very expensive quote! Daniel removed our tree for a very reasonable price given the size and complexity of the roots. Everyone told me it would take 2weeks and Daniel did it in 1week! He was always respectful and Had great work ethic! I would highly recommend him!

I needed some concrete work done so I came to thumtack. This was my 1st time using this app so I was unsure. However, within 30 min or so Jose got in touch with me via message & I called him back the next morning. I told him exactly what I needed & he gave me a great quote. A few days later he was at my house with his assistant getting the work done. He was very friendly, told me exactly what he was going to do, offered suggestions, and cleaned up after the work was done. Liked him so much that I hired him for the next day to trim all 8 of my palm trees, 3 fruit trees, and other tree. He gave me another great price. I have more work to be done, so I will definitely be hiring him again. Glad my husband & I had the opportunity to meet him he's excellent at what he does & our go to guy now!

I am very satisfied with Perfection Tree service. I had 3 large Eucalyptus trees that were over grown and needed to be thinned out. Michael and his crew thinned them out and left them beautiful. I am very happy with the way they look now. So I recommend this company to everyone. Thanks again Michael and Perfection Tree Specialist for doing such a great job.

After having a lot of estimates with no good results I am very pleased to have met John. He did a great job and is nice to work with. John cut and edged my grass, trimmed my tree and even pulled some weeds by hand. Then he used his blower to make everything look perfect. I highly recommend him and I can say I finally have a gardener, yea! Also...his prices are very reasonable for the work that he does.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
